Kansas City, Mo. -- Two upsets highlighted the day as week ten comes to a close in MIAA basketball.
Central Missouri at Lindenwood
WBB: LWU 92, UCM 85 OT
Lindenwood forced overtime and outscored Central Missouri in the extra session to earn a win at home. LWU never trailed in overtime as they moved to 2-8 in the MIAA this season.
The Lions were led by Kassidy Gengebacher who scored 24 points, Jenny Rocha added 15 points and Kylie Ferguson had a 13 point game. Vanessa Zailo had a double-double as she scored 14 points and 27 rebounds tieing an MIAA single game record with Felicia Sutton from Truman against Missouri-Rolla on Feb. 18, 1989. For the Jennies Jasmine Thompson led the way with a game high 25 points, Justin Prairie Chief added 17 points and Shelby Winkelmann 13 points. Revonnia Howard had a double-double scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
MBB: LWU 82, #22 UCM 68
Lindenwood pushed their winning streak to nine games as they upset #22 Central Missouri on their home floor. LWU shot .538 from the field for the game as they moved to 8-2 in the league this season.
For the Lions Darris Smith led the way with 28 points and Cory Arentsen added 22 points. Garrett Reeg had 12 points and and six boards and Sam Mader had 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds. For the Mules Preston Brunz and Kyle Wolf each finished with 11 points. Brennen Hughes had 10 points and TJ White pulled down eight rebounds and dished five assists.
Missouri Southern at Missouri Western
WBB: MWSU 61, MSSU 56
Missouri Western shot .542 in the second half as they picked up a victory over Missouri Southern at home. In a tie game with 2:20 remaining MWSU scored the final five points of the game to move to 3-7 in the league.
For the Griffons LaQuinta Jefferson scored 17 points and pulled down five rebounds on the afternoon. Chelsea Dewey had 11 points and dished out six assists and Tiara Hall added 10 points. For the Lions Sharese Jones scored 18 points and led the team with nine rebounds. Camila Lacerda scored nine points, pulled down five boards and dished three assists.
MBB: MSSU 77, MWSU 65
Missouri Southern trailed by six at the half, but came from behind to defeat Missouri Western on the road. MSSU scored 42 second half points to erase the deficit and move to 7-3 in the league this season.
The Lions were led by Taevaunn Prince who scored 18 points and pulled down a team best eight rebounds. Lane Barlow added 13 points and five assists as Austin Wright finished with 12 points and Greg Renfroe had 11 points. For the Griffons Cortrez Colbert led the way with 18 points and Currie Byrd had 10 points. On the glass Kevin Thomas had a team leading nine rebounds.
Washburn at Northeastern State
WBB: NSU 58, WU 54
Northeastern State trailed by two at the half, but came back to earn a victory over Washburn at home. NSU racked up 17 points off of turnovers as they moved to 5-6 in the league this season.
For the RiverHawks Chelsey Beathard led the way scoring 16 points and Fontana Tate added 13 points. Sarah Sagely had 10 points and six boards and Kate Bellamy added a team high seven rebounds. For the Ichabods Casyn Buchman had 20 points and pulled down five rebounds. Taylor Ignoto added 13 points and Jayna Smith had a team best nine boards.
MBB: NSU 80, WU 73
Northeastern State shot .500 from the field as they earned a victory at home over Washburn. NSU hit 12 three-pointers shooting .522 from behind the arch to move to 3-8 in the league this season.
For the RiverHawks Keon Littleton led the way with a double-double scoring 23 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Trey Mohair had 17 points, Dakota Caudill added 12 points and C.J. Winzer finished with 10 points. For the Ichabods Alex North had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Wiggins added 16 points and David Salach had 11 points on the afternoon.
Emporia State at Central Oklahoma
WBB: #1 ESU 63, UCO 53
#1 Emporia State held Central Oklahoma to .267 shooting in the second half as they picked up a victory on the road. ESU had 10 points off of turnover and got 15 second chance points as they moved to 9-1 in the MIAA this season.
For the Lady Hornets Kelly Moten had a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while also dishing five assists. Addie Lackey had 11 points and Kathryn Flott had 10 points and nine rebounds. For the Bronchos Kyle Mayes led the way with 16 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Marley Anderson had 10 points and Chelsea Robinson dished a team best four assists.
MBB: UCO 68, ESU 50
Central Oklahoma built a 13-point lead at halftime and made that hold up as they defeated Emporia State on their home floor. UCO shot .528 from the field for the game as they moved to 6-5 on the season in league play.
For the Bronchos Phillip Brown led the way with 15 points and Seth Heckart had a team best six assists. Mahlon Jones had 13 points and Trai Jordan added 10 points while pulling down eight boards. For the Hornets Terrence Moore led the way with 11 points and a team best nine rebounds. Jay Temaat also scored 11 points and Tyler Jordan and Moore each dished three assists.
Southwest Baptist at Lincoln
WBB: LU 70, SBU 61
Lincoln held Southwest Baptist to just 27 first half points as they picked up a win on their home floor. LU shot .567 in the first half as they moved to 3-7 in the league this season.
For the Blue Tigers Kelsey Williams led the way with 28 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kayton Cole added 10 points and on the glass Lizzie Nessling pulled down 10 rebounds. For the Bearcats Leann Terrill had 16 points and pulled down five rebounds. Also in double figures were Dilonna Johnson with 13 points and Ashlee Pitts added 11 points and six boards.
MBB: SBU 69, LU 50
Southwest Baptist shot .500 from the field as they earned a victory on the road at Lincoln. SBU had 26 points off of turnovers as they moved to 4-7 in MIAA play for the season.
For the Bearcats Daymond Cowlah had 15 points and on the glass Mena Stephens led the way with eight boards. Finn Delany was also in double figures with 13 points on the afternoon. For the Blue Tigers Malcolm McDonald led the way scoring 12 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Joshua Buie was also in double figures as he finished the game with 11 points.
Pittsburg State at Fort Hays State
WBB: #17 FHSU 62, #4 PSU 43
#17 Fort Hays State held #4 Pittsburg State to just 21 second half points to earn the upset victory at home. FHSU held PSU to just .279 shooting in the game as they stayed perfect at 10-0 in the league.
For the Tigers Kate Lehman had a double-double scoring 21 points and pulling down 14 rebounds for the 50
th of her career. Jill Faxon had 16 points and Keriann Shaw also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus led the way scoring 13 points and pulling down five rebounds. On the glass Kylie Gafford had nine rebounds on the afternoon.
MBB: PSU 69, FHSU 64
Pittsburg State scored 25 points off of turnover as they earned a victory on the road at Fort Hays State. PSU got 22 points from their bench as they moved to 7-3 in the league this season.
For the Gorillas Josiah Gustafson led the way scoring 15 points while Connor Kjer had 12 points and five rebounds. Devon Branch added 11 points and Javis Flynn dished out a game high seven assists. For the Tigers Royce Williams led the way with 18 points on the afternoon. Achoki Moikubu had nine points, five rebounds and dished out four assists.
