THREE DOUBLE HEADERS OPEN WEEK 13 IN MIAA BASKETBALL

Kansas City, Mo. – Three double headers on Wednesday night got things going in week thirteen of MIAA basketball.

Emporia State at Washburn
WBB – #7 ESU 69, WU 63
#7 Emporia State outscored Washburn 16-2 over the final five minutes as they came from behind for the victory on the road. ESU erased a 12-point halftime lead and trailed by as 17 points in the second half as they moved to 11-2 in league play.

For the Lady Hornets Kionna Kellog had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Marissa Quick had 16 points and eight rebounds while Laura Patrick added 13 points. For the Ichabods Casyn Buchman had 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Taylor Ignoto had 11 points while Janelle Travis and Brittney Lynch each finished with 10 points.

MBB – WU 79, ESU 74
Washburn took a five-point lead into halftime and held on to pick up a victory over Emporia State. WU was strong on the glass outrebounding ESU 45-24 as they moved to 8-5 the MIAA this season.

For the Ichabods Alex North had a double-double scoring 22 points and pulling down 13 boards. Kyle Wiggins had 20 points and six assists while Leon Flowers and Chris Davis each added 10 points. For the Hornet Terrence Moore had 28 points and Gavin Brown pulled down six rebounds. Kaleb Wright had 20 points while Micah Swank dished out four assists.

Missouri Western at Northwest Missouri
WBB – NWMSU 50, MWSU 44
Northwest Missouri held Missouri Western to just 17 first half points as they picked up a victory at home. NWMSU held MWSU to .310 shooting from the field as they moved to 5-8 in league play this season.

For the Bearcats Ariel Easton was the only player in double figures finishing with 16 points on the night. Monique Stevens led the way on the glass pulling down seven rebounds. For the Griffons Tiffanie Abrams finished in double figures with 13 points in the ballgame. On the glass Tiara Hall had a game high eight rebounds.

MBB – NWMSU 92, MWSU 64
Northwest Missouri scored 47 second half points as they picked up a victory at home over Missouri Western. NWMSU shot .570 for the game as they moved to 12-1 in the MIAA.

For the Bearcats DeShaun Cooper scored a game best 23 points and Dillon Starzl added 14 points and eight rebounds. Grant Cozad had 12 points while Kyle Schlake and Bryston Williams each had 10 points. For the Griffons Cortrez Colbert led the way with 18 points on the night. Kevin Balque had 15 points and Ryan Devers finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Fort Hays State at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB – #25 FHSU 85, UNK 67
#25 Fort Hays State held Nebraska-Kearney to just 24 first half points as they picked up a victory on the road. FHSU shot .439 from the field as they moved to 9-4 in league play this season.

For the Tigers Kate Lehman had a double-double scoring a game high 33 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Chelsea Mason had 19 points and Beth Bohuslavsky had 10 points and seven assists. For the Lopers Laramey Lewis had a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Amarah Williams had 18 points and Shelby Zimmerman added 14 points.

MBB – UNK 90, #23 FHSU 83
Nebraska-Kearney held #23 Fort Hays State to 35 first half points as they picked up a win at home. UNK shot .526 from the field and scored 42 first half points as they moved to 6-7 in league play.

For the Lopers Connor Beranek led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds while Ethan Brozek had 24 points. Kevin Dineen and Mike Dentlinger each scored 13 points and Davion Pearson dished out eight assists. For the Tigers James Fleming led the way with 16 points. Craig Nicholson had 14 points and eight assists and Tomislav Gabric had 14 points and six rebounds.
