Kansas City, Mo. – MIAA basketball’s opening week rolls along as their was another upset and a another last second win.
 
Lindenwood at Northeastern State
WBB: NSU 65, NSU 56
For the second straight game Northeastern State came from behind as they picked up a victory at home over Lindenwood. NSU trailed by as much as six in the first five minutes of the second half, but came back to move to 2-0 in league play.
 
For the RiverHawk Chelsey Beathard led the way scoring 18 points and dishing out three assists. Fontana Tate added 14 points and three assists and Kate Bellamy had 12 points and five rebounds. For the Lions Kassidy Gengenbacher was the only scorer in double figure with 14 points. Vanessa Zailo had a strong night on the glass as she pulled down 19 rebounds.
 
MBB: NSU 86, LWU 65
Lindenwood put up 54 first half points as they earned a victory over Lindenwood at home. NSU was a blistering 14 of 16 from behind the three-point line as they moved to 1-1 in the MIAA this season.
 
For the RiverHawks Michael Harmon led the way hitting six three-pointers and scoring 30 points on the night. Demone Harrison added 16 points, Dakota Caudill had 12 points and Landon DeMasters finished with 10 points. For the Lions Cory Arentsen led the scoring with 16 points and Garrett Reeg added 13 points. On the glass Zachary Biggs pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.
 
Northwest Missouri at Pittsburg State
WBB: #8 PSU 85, NWMSU 59
#8 Pittsburg State scored 53 first half points on the way to a victory over Northwest Missouri at home. PSU shot .567 from the field as they earned a win in their league opener.
 
For the Gorillas Cathy Brugman led the way scoring 15 points while Mikaela Burgess added 13 points. Morgan Westhoff and Lizzy Jeronimus each had 12 points and Elena Flott and Kylie Gafford each added 10 points. For the Bearcats Shelby Mustain led the way scoring 16 points and pulling down four rebounds.
 
MBB: PSU 69, NWMSU 67
Pittsburg State got a jumper with eight seconds to play to lift them to a victory at home over Northwest Missouri. PSU shot .571 from the field in the second half as they earned the win in their MIAA opener.
 
For the Gorillas Josiah Gustafson hit the game winning shot scoring 17 points and pulling down six rebounds. Devon Branch also finished with 17 points and Javis Flynn had 14 points on the evening. For the Bearcats Connor Crooker led all scorers with a 25-point effort on the night. Justin Pitts was also in double figures scoring 17 points and pulling down five rebounds.
 
Southwest Baptist at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB: SBU 81, UNK 69
Southwest Baptist shot .508 from the field in the game as they picked up a victory on the road at Nebraska-Kearney. SBU racked up 20 points off of turnovers as they moved to 1-1 in the league so far.
 
The Bearcats were led by Brook Duncan who scored a game high 25 points and dished out six assists. Dilona Johnson added 13 points and six assists while Morgan Lucy finished with 10 points. For the Lopers Kelsey Fitzgerald had 21 points and Amarah Williams added 18 points. Laramey Lewis finished with a double-double scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
 
MBB: UNK 80, SBU 62
Nebraska-Kearney shot .532 from the field as they picked up a victory at home over Southwest Baptist. UNK was of 10 of 19 from behind the three-point line good for .526 percent as they moved to 2-0 in league play.
 
For the Lopers Ethan Brozek led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds. Connor Bearanek also had 20 points while Isaiah McKay finished with 14 points on the night. For the Bearcats Menas Stephens had a double-double with 22 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Patrick Burke added 11 points and Daymond Cowiah dished out five assists.
 
Missouri Western at Fort Hays State
WBB: FHSU 81, MWSU 57
Fort Hays State held Missouri Western under 30 points in each half as they picked up a victory at home. FHSU shot .467 from the field and three-point line as they moved to 2-0 in the MIAA this season.
 
Kate Lehman led the way for the Tigers with a double-double scoring 22 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Chelsea Mason finished with 20 points and Beth Bohuslavsky had 18 points and six assists. For the Griffons LaQuinta Jefferson led the team with 17 points a six rebounds. Sarafina Handy added 11 points and Mhykeah Baez finished with 10 points.
 
MBB: FHSU 90, MWSU 78
Fort Hays State scored 20 points off of turnovers as they picked up a victory at home over Missouri Western. FHSU shot .526 from the field as they moved to 1-1 in league play this season.
 
The Tigers were led by Craig Nicholson who had 23 points and Jake Stoppel with a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Dom Samac had 13 points, Achoki Molkobu had 12 points and James Flemming added 11 points. For the Griffons Ryan Devers led the way with 21 points and Cortrez Colbert had 12 points. Kevin Thomas had 11 points and on the glass Aaron Emmanuel had six rebounds.
 
Missouri Southern at Washburn
WBB: MSSU 66, #7 WU 62
Missouri Southern scored all the points in the final minute as they upset #7 Washburn on the road. MSSU scored 15 points off of turnover as they open league play with a 2-0 record.
 
For the Lions Jenson Maydew led the way scoring 14 points and pulling down a team best eight rebounds. Sharese Jones, Nicole Hartzog and Jordan Dinyer each finished with 11 points. For the Ichabods Erika Lane had 17 points and Casyn Buchman finished with 14 points. Taylor Ignoto had 11 points and Honor Duvall added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
MBB: MSSU 87, WU 61
Missouri Southern held Washburn to just 19 first half points as they picked up a win on the road. MSSU racked up 50 points in the second half of their own shooting .550 for the game to move to 1-1 in league play.
 
Taevaunn Prince led the way for the Lions with a double-double scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while Blaine Miller also added 17 points. Lane Barlow had 12 points and Austin Wright finished with 11 points. For the Ichabods Alex North had 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds as did David Salach. Kyle Wiggins had nine points and dished out four assists.
