Kansas City, Mo. -- Their was an overtime game and two games decided by one point as league play started to ramp up in MIAA basketball.
Central Missouri at Fort Hays State
WBB: FHSU 76, #21 UCM 75
Fort Hays State got two free throws with eight seconds to play in overtime as they held on the for the one point upset victory over #21 Central Missouri. The game was knotted at the end of each period 30-30 at half, 63-63 at the end of regulation as FHSU opens with a 1-0 league record.
Chelsea Mason led the way for the Tigers with 20 points as Kate Lehman added a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Beth Bohuslavsky had 14 points and five assists while Nikola Kacperska had 13 points and dished out five assists. For the Jennies Justina Prairie Chief led the way with 21 points and Shelby Winkelmann finished with 20 points. Revonnia Howard had a double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down a game high 15 rebounds.
MBB: #6 UCM 80, FHSU 71
#6 Central Missouri erased a five-point halftime deficit to pick up a victory on the road at Fort Hays State. UCM shot .700 from behind the three-point line as they moved to 1-0 in MIAA play this season.
The Mules were led by TJ White who scored 20 points and Dillon Deck who added 17 points and five rebounds. Rakeem Dikerson had 14 points and dished out six assists while Preston Brunz added 11 points. For the Tigers Craig Nicholson had 19 points and dished out four assists. Royce Williams and Dom Somac each finished with 12 points in the game.
Lincoln at Northeastern State
WBB: NSU 69, LU 68
Northeastern State erased a six-point halftime deficit to earn a win over Lincoln at home. Alexis Hill made a lay-up and converted a free throw with one second remaining to put her team out to a 1-0 league record.
For the RiverHawks Chelsey Beathard led the way with 18 points and four assists while Hill added 14 points. Fontana Tate had 10 points and Mya Walker pulled down a team high eight rebounds. For the Blue Tigers Dorian Briggs led the way scoring 16 points and Hunter Yoakum added 14 points. On the glass Lizzie Nessling pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.
MBB: LU 75, NSU 69
Lincoln overcame a four-point halftime deficit as they picked up a victory on the road at Northeastern State. LU scored 21 points off of turnovers as they begin league play with a 1-0 record.
For the Lions Joshua Buie led the way with 27 points and also added three steals. Victor Scott had 21 points and Mike Smith added 12 points while dishing out seven assists. For the RiverHawks Demone Harrison had a team best 17 points and Keon Littelton had a game high 11 rebounds. Michael Harmon had 15 points and Montre’ Williams dished out four assists.
Lindenwood at Central Oklahoma
WBB: UCO 76, LWU 47
Central Oklahoma held Lindenwood to just 21 first half points as they picked up the victory at home. UCO shot .500 from the field in the first half as they moved to 1-0 in league play this season.
The Bronchos were led by Marley Anderson who scored 17 points and McKenzie Solberg who added 16 points. On the glass Hayley Bryan had a team high nine rebounds and Chelsea Robinson dished four assists. For the Lions Jenny Rocha led the way scoring a game high 18 points. Kassidy Gengenbacher finished with 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds as did Vanessa Zailo.
MBB: UCO 93, LWU 70
Central Oklahoma shot .680 from the field as they picked up a victory at home over Lindenwood. UCO shot .474 from behind the arc as they opened with a 1-0 record in MIAA play.
For the Bronchos Garen Wright and Phillip Brown led the way with each scoring 20 points on the night. Mahlong Jones had 17 points and eight rebounds while Trai Jordan added 10 points. For the Lions Cory Arentsen had 16 points and LJ McIntosh added 14 points while dishing five assists. Chanse Creekmur had 12 points and Darris Smith finished with 10 points.
Missouri Southern at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB: MSSU 92, UNK 64
Missouri Southern scored 53 second half points as they opened league play with a victory on the road at Nebraska-Kearney. MSSU shot .656 from the field in the second half and emerged with a 1-0 league record.
For the Lions Sharese Jones led the way with 25 points and Nicole Hartzog had 16 points. Camila Lacerda had 14 points and Jenson Maydew added 12 points and a team best six rebounds. For the Lopers Amarah Williams led the way scoring 21 points and pulling down a game high nine rebounds. Laramy Lewis added 14 points, Alexa Hogberg had 13 points and Kelsey Fitzgerald had 10 points and three blocked shots.
MBB: UNK 93, MSSU 73
Nebraska-Kearney used 51 first half points to propel themselves to a victory over Missouri Southern at home. UNK shot .593 from the field on the night to open league play with a 1-0 record.
The Lopers were led by Ethan Brozek who had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Connor Beranek added 21 points, Trey Lansman had 17 points and Isaiah McKay added 12 points. For the Lions Taevunn Prince had 12 points and Cameron Cornelius had a team best six rebounds. Blaine Miller had 11 points and Lane Barlow and Charlie Brown each had 10 points.
Southwest Baptist at Washburn
WBB: #7 WU 80, SBU 64
#7 Washburn held Southwest Baptist to just 17 first half points as they picked up a victory at home. SBU outscored WU 47-41 in the second half but WU held on to moved to 1-0 in league play.
The Ichabods were led by Honor Duvall who scored 22 points and pulled down a team best nine rebounds. Casyn Buchman added 13 points and Erika Lane and Taylor Ignoto each finished with 10 points. For the Bearcats Lisette Plasencia scored a team best 14 points. Morgan Lucy had 11 points and added four blocked shots on the evening.
MBB: WU 68, SBU 56
Washburn scored 16 points off of turnover and added 13 second chance points as they earned a victory at home. WU outrebounded SBU 32-26 as they moved to 1-0 in MIAA play this season.
For the Ichabods Kyle Wiggins led the way with a game high 24 points and David Salach had a game high 10 rebounds. Alex North finished with 13 points and four assists and Algie Key added 12 points. For the Bearcats Menas Stephen had 14 points and Robert Shaw added 11 points on the evening. Patrick Burke had team points and a team leading seven rebounds.
