Kansas City, Mo. – League play got into full swing once again as most teams made their return from the holiday break in MIAA basketball.

Pittsburg State at Lindenwood
WBB – PSU 80, LWU 79
Pittsburg State took the lead with four seconds to play and held on as a missed Lindenwood free throw late gave them a one point win on the road. The teams shot identical from the field, but PSU was better from the line to move to 2-0 in league play.

For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus had 23 points and Y’Cedria Devers added 14 points and five rebounds. Antquinita Reed had 12 points and Cathy Brugman added 11 points and eight boards. For the Lions Marissa Lehnig led the way with 23 points and Caroline Bourlioux had 10 rebounds. Kassidy Gengenbacher and Morgan Johnson each finished with 16 points.

MBB – LWU 91, PSU 81
Lindenwood hit 42 free throws as they picked up a win at home over Pittsburg State. LWU shot .420 from the field as they moved to 2-3 in league play.

For the Lions Darris Smith led all scorers with 28 points on the afternoon. Brandon Marquardt had 13 points and Garrett Reeg had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. For the Gorillas Devon Branch led the way with 23 points while Sam Pugh added 17 points. Jake Bullard and Josiah Gustafson each had 12 points in the ballgame.

Fort Hays State at Missouri Southern
WBB – MSSU 76, FHSU 71
Missouri Southern erased a five-point halftime deficit to pick up a win at home over Fort Hays State. MSSU got 31 points off of turnovers and racked up 18 second chance points as they moved to 3-1 in the league.

For the Lions Sharese Jones led the way with 18 points and five boards. Shonte Clay had 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Nicole Hartzog added 13 points on the afternoon. For the Tigers Kate Lehman had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Katelyn Edwards was just shy of a double-double adding 17 points and nine boards.

MBB – FHSU 76, MSSU 67
Fort Hays State scored 20 points off of turnovers as they picked up a win on the road at Missouri Southern. FHSU outrebounded MSSU as they picked up their first win in conference play.

For the Tigers Craig Nicholson led the way with 22 points and four assists. Jake Stoppel had 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Andrew Victoria added 10 rebounds. For the Lions Marquis Addison was the leading scorer with 17 points on the afternoon. Jordan Talbert had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Cameron Cornelius had 14 points.

Nebraska-Kearney at Central Missouri
WBB - #8 UCM 73, UNK 66
#8 Central Missouri shot .412 from the field as they held on for a win at home over Nebraska-Kearney. UCM led by just one at the half but held the lead to move to 4-0 in league play.

For the Jennies Keuna Flax had a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds on the day. Shelby Winkelmann added 13 points and seven rebounds while Quinnecia Twine added 11 points. For the Lopers Kelsey Fitzgerald had 18 points and eight rebounds. Sarah Hix added 15 points to go along with five boards.

MBB – UCM 85, UNK 65
Central Missouri racked up 37 points off of turnovers as they picked up a win at home over Nebraska-Kearney. UCM forced 25 total turnovers in the game as they moved to 3-1 in the MIAA this year.

For the Mules Daylen Robinson led all scorers with 26 points on the afternoon. TJ White had 15 points and Jon Gilliam and Charles Hammork each had 12 points. For the Lopers Ethan Bozek had 15 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Shields added 14 points and Connor Beranek had eight points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Emporia State at Lincoln
WBB – #3 ESU 74, LU 49
Emporia State held Lincoln to just .233 shooting from the field as they picked up a win on the road. ESU racked up 52 total rebounds, 34 on defense as they moved to 4-0 in the MIAA.

For the Lady Hornets Rheanna Egli led the way with 14 points and Kionna Kellog added 11 points. Laura Patrick and Haley Parker each added 10 points while Desiree Wylie pulled down 13 rebounds. For the Blue Tigers Jennifer Rosado had 21 points hitting 12 free throws. Hunter Yoakum added eight points and Lizzie Nessling was a perfect six of six from the line.

MBB – ESU 104, LU 97 2OT
Emporia State tied the game with just one second to play in the first overtime as they defeated Lincoln in two overtimes on the road. ESU then outscored Lincoln 13-6 in the second overtime period as they moved to 2-2 in league play.

For the Hornets Kaleb Wright led all scorers with 27 points and five rebounds. Terrence Moore had 21 points and Jevon Taylor added 19 points on the afternoon. For the Blue Tigers Mike Smith had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. James Edmond led his team in scoring with 24 points and Joshua Buie added 20 points.

Central Oklahoma at Northwest Missouri
WBB – NWMSU 78, UCO 72
Northwest Missouri shot .600 from the field as they picked up the win at home over Central Oklahoma. NWMSU got 22 points from their bench as they moved to 1-3 in league play.

For the Bearcats Monique Stevens had 15 points and added eight assists. Amber Schechinger had 14 points and Annie Mathews scored 11 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double. For the Bronchos Jill Bryan had 28 points to lead all scores. Julia Mason had 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

MBB – UCO 81, NWMSU 77
Central Oklahoma overcame a five-point halftime deficit as they picked up a win on the road at Northwest Missouri. UCO shot .591 from behind the three-point line as they moved to 3-2 in league play this season.

For the Bronchos Josh Gibbs had a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Aaron Anderson added 18 points and Cal Andrews finished with 15 points for the afternoon. For the Bearcats DeShaun Cooper led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists. Bryston Williams had 18 points and Dillon Starzl added 15 points and six rebounds.

Washburn at Missouri Western
WBB – WU 67, MWSU 49
Washburn shot .438 from the field as they picked up a win on the road at Missouri Western. WU held MWSU to just .298 shooting on the day as they moved to 3-2 in the league this season.

For the Ichabods Taylor Ignoto led the way with 15 points and Honor Duvall added 13 points. Janelle Travis had 10 points and Brittney Lynch led the way on the glass with seven rebounds. For the Griffons Tiffanie Abrams had 11 points and JaQuitta Dever added eight points. On the board Jallisa Lewis led the way with eight rebounds on the afternoon.

MBB – WU 79, MWSU 69
Washburn put up 50 points in the second half as they picked up a win on the road a Missouri Western. WU shot .491 from the field as they moved to 4-1 in the league this season.

For the Ichabods Leon Flowers led all scorers with 26 points and Jeff Reid pulled down 11 rebounds. Kyle Wiggins had 16 points and Alex North added 11 points and eight rebounds to the effort. For the Griffons Ryan Devers had 25 points and four assists. Cortrez Colbert had 16 points and Dareon Jones finished with 12 points.
