Kansas City, Mo. -- Their was a wild finish to the final game in the middle portion of week twelve in MIAA basketball.
Emporia State at Fort Hays State
WBB – FHSU 72, #3 ESU 57
Fort Hays State held #3 Emporia State to just 23 points in the first half as they picked up an upset victory at home. Fort Hays State was good on the glass getting 25 second chance points as they moved to 7-4 in league play.
For the Tigers Katelyn Edwards had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Kate Lehman added a double-double 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tera Ingalsbe was the third FHSU player with a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. For the Lady Hornets Merissa Quick led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds. Desiree Wylie had 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Amber Vandiver finished with 10 points and six boards.
MBB – #24 FHSU 99, ESU 92 2OT
It took two extra periods but #24 Fort Hays State pulled out a victory at home over Emporia State. It was the ninth straight win for Fort Hays State as they moved to 8-3 in league play.
The Tigers were led by Craig Nicholson who scored 36 and dished out six assists. Dwayne Brunson had 24 points and Achoki Moikobu had 15 points while Jake Stoppel pulled and eight rebounds. For the Hornets Paul Bunch had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Kaleb Wright had 30 points, Terrence Moore had 20 points and Tyler Jordan added 10 points.
Northwest Missouri State at Lindenwood
WBB – NWMSU 70, LWU 59
Northwest Missouri outrebounded Lindenwood 40-29 as they picked up a victory on the road. NWMSU got six three-pointers as they moved to 3-8 in the MIAA this season.
For the Bearcats Ashleigh Nelson scored 16 points and Annie Mathews pulled down a game high 10 rebounds. Monique Stevens has 15 points and Tember Schechinger finished with 14 points on the night. For the Lions Kassidy Gengenbacher led all scorers with 18 points. Caroline Bourlioux had 16 points and seven rebounds and Julie Hlinak had 10 points and six boards.
MBB – NWMSU 63, LWU 61
Northwest Missouri scored 13 points off of turnover as they picked up a victory on the road at Lindenwood. NWMSU hit 18 free throws including six in the last 25 seconds as they moved to 10-1 in league play.
For the Bearcats DeShaun Cooper had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Bryston Williams and Conner Crooker had 12 points while Grant Cozad finished with 11 points. For the Lions Marcus Hinton had 17 points and Garrett Reeg pulled down nine rebounds. Darris Smith added 13 points on the evening.
Washburn at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB – WU 82, UNK 70
Washburn got out on the run scoring 14 points on fast breaks as they picked up a win at Nebraska-Kearney. WU got 24 total points from their bench as they moved to 8-3 in league play this season.
For the Ichabods Janelle Travis led the way scoring 20 points while Brittney Lynch pulled down nine rebounds. Honor Duvall had 14 points and Lynch added 12 points in the ballgame. For the Lopers Shelby Zimmerman had a double-double scoring 21 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Amarah Williams also had a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards.
MBB – UNK 88, WU 79
Nebraska-Kearney erased a ten-point halftime deficit as they picked up a victory at home over Washburn. UNK put up 59 second half points as they moved to 4-7 in league play this season.
The Lopers were led by Connor Beranek who had 21 points and seven rebounds and Mike Dentlinger with 21 points and nine boards. Ethan Brozek had 14 points and nine rebounds as Tyler Shields finished with 12 points. For the Ichabods Alex North had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jeff Reid had 19 points, Kyle Wiggins scored 18 points and Leon Flowers had 15 points.
Missouri Southern at Southwest Baptist
WBB – SBU 83, MSSU 78
Southwest Baptist got 48 points in the second half as they picked up a victory at home over Missouri Southern. SBU shot .520 from the field and .591 from the three-point line as they moved to 4-7 in league play.
The Bearcats were led by Brook Duncan who had 23 points and Leann Lansdown who dished six assists. Jacqui Zelenka had 14 points and eight rebounds while Dilonna Johnson had 13 points and Alex Botkin added 11 points. For the Lions Sharese Jones led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds and Shonte Clay had 15 points and six boards. Samantha Soyez had 12 points and lexis Fitzpatrick added 10 points on the night.
MBB – MSSU 96, SBU 94
Both teams shot over .500 from the field as Missouri Southern held on for a victory over Southwest Baptist on the road. MSSU shot .594 from the field as the moved to 9-2 in league play this season.
For the Lions Jordan Talbert scored 16 points and Lane Barlow added 15 points. Slim Magee also had 15 points and a team best nine rebounds while Greg Renfroe had 13 points. For the Bearcats Menas Stephens had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Desi Barmore had a game high 22 points and Preston Guiot added 17 points.
