Kansas City, Mo. -- In an epic pitchers duel that saw two pitchers work more than 10 innings Minnesota State-Mankato defeated Missouri Southern 1-0 in the NCAA Division II Central Regional.
The Mavericks scored on a bunt single with two outs in the bottom of the 14th inning.
For the Lions Sam Ryan went four for six on the night as he finished with just under half of the teams hits. Dane Kolkmeyer was the only other player with a multiple hit game going two for six. On the mound Brett Abell worked 11 strong innings, allowing just five hits and striking out 11 on the night. For the Mavericks Jason Hoppe worked 10.2 innings striking out seven and scattering seven hits.
Missouri Southern will now turn right around and face Central Missouri tomorrow at 12 p.m. from Franklin Rodgers Park in Mankato, Minn.
