NSU AND SBU ADVANCE TO MIAA WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

#1 and #2 seed fight through

Kansas City, Mo. – Northeastern State and Southwest Baptist each won their semi-final match-ups to set up the pairing for the MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship.

Northeastern State 5, Central Oklahoma 1
Northeastern State punched their ticket to an MIAA Championship as they defeated their in-state rival. It all got going with a sweep in doubles that started with Ivana Belejova and Kirstina Savchenkov defeating Antonella Rossini and Rose Cabato 8-5 in #1 doubles. Jeanne Mallem and Houda Bellamine defeated Petra Pesic and Alina Gorina 8-2 in #2 doubles. Finally Martina Bruzikova and Barbora Jirickova defeated Laura Klingert and Kristin Richardson 8-5 in #3 doubles.

In singles UCO shot out with a win as Antonella Rossini defeated Ivana Belejova 6-3, 6-2 in #1 singles. NSU’s Kristina Savchenkov won 6-4, 6-3 over Petra Pesic in #2 singles. Finally Houda Bellamine won 6-4, 6-2 over Rose Cabato to seal the victory.

Northeastern State will now face Southwest Baptist in the MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship at 11 a.m. from the Cooper Tennis Complex. UCO will face of with Northwest Missouri for third place also at 11 a.m. from Springfield, Mo.

Southwest Baptist 6, Northwest Missouri 0
Southwest Baptist dropped only 12 total sets as they earned a spot in the MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship. In #1 doubles Christina Zentai and Fanni Varga won 8-3 over Camila Quesada and Alexis Bartek. Adrien Kovacs and Faiga Schmidt won 8-1 over Natalia Galindo and Gisela Font in #2 doubles. Finally Mehak Singh and Andjela Panovski earned an 8-2 win over Emily Hoffman and Leslee Feldhaus in #3 doubles.

In singles Mehak Singh took her match 6-0, 6-2 over NWMSU’s Natalia Galindo at #2 singles. Adrien Kovacs of SBU then won 6-0, 6-1 at #4 singles and Faiga Schmidt won 6-0, 6-3 over Stephanie Mannix in #5 singles to seal the match.

Southwest Baptist will face Northeastern State in the MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship at 11 a.m. from the Cooper Tennis Complex. NWMSU will face UCO for third place also at 11 a.m. from Springfield, Mo.
