Kansas City, Mo. – League play got underway as 12 of the 14 MIAA schools were in action on Thursday night.
Fort Hays State at Central Missouri
WBB - #8 UCM 72, FHSU 51
#8 Central Missouri shot .415 from the field as they picked up a victory at home over Fort Hays State. UCM held FHSU to .281 shooting from the field as the moved to 1-0 in league play.
For the Jennies Keuna Flax had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Revonnia Howard and Shelby Winkelmann each added 14 points on the evening. For the Tigers Kate Lehman had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Katelyn Edwards added 13 points and five rebounds as well.
MBB –UCM 93, #15 FHSU 85 OT
Central Missouri put up 20 points in the overtime period as they pulled out an overtime win at home over #15 Fort Hays State. UCM shot .518 from the field as they moved to 1-0 in league play.
For the Mules Daylen Robinson had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Dillon Deck had 19 points and nine rebounds while Kyle Wolf added 17 points and nine boards. For the Tigers
Washburn at Southwest Baptist
WBB - #20 WU 78, SBU 71
#20 Washburn went into the half on the road at Southwest Baptist tied, but used 41 points in the second half to pick up the win. WU shot .431 from the field and overcame nine SBU three pointers to move to 1-0 in the MIAA for the year.
For the Ichabods Casyn Buchman led the way with 27 points and six assists. Brittany Lych had a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds and Honor Duvall finished with 11 points. For the Bearcats Dilonna Johnson had 19 points and six assists and Lissette Plasencia added 14 points. Brook Duncan finished with 12 points and Morgan Lucy had 11 points on the night.
MBB – #22 WU 89, SBU 87
#22 Washburn got a lay-up from Korey Fisher with 12 seconds to play to go ahead for good on the road at Southwest Baptist. Both teams shot over .500 from the field as WU picked up a win on the opening night of league play.
For the Ichabods Alex North had 25 points and pulled down six rebounds. Kyle Wiggins had 15 points and Jeff Reid finished with 14 points while Fisher finished with 13 points on the night. For the Bearcats Rashaad Brown Peterson had 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Derrick Steward had 17 points, Desi Barmore added 14 points and Menas Stephens had 11 points.
Pittsburg State at Northwest Missouri
WBB – PSU 57, NWMSU 55
Northwest Missouri cut a Pittsburg State seven point second half lead to as little as one, but could not complete the comeback in a loss at home. PSU shot .511 from the field as they moved to 1-0 in league play.
For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus had 11 points and six rebounds along with three blocks and three steals. Antqunita Reed also had 11 points and Alex Muff added ten points. For the Bearcats Ashliegh Nelson was the only player in double figures with 18 points. Annie Mathews added six points and a team best six rebounds.
MBB – NWMSU 75, PSU 59
Northwest Missouri shot .410 from the field and hit 18 free throws as they picked up a victory at home. NWMSU outrebounded PSU 31-28 as they moved to 1-0 in league play.
For the Bearcats Conner Crooker led the way with 27 points on the night. Dillon Starzl added 15 points and eight rebounds and Grant Cozad had 12 points. For the Gorillas Josiah Gustafson led the way with 16 points and five rebounds. Devon Branch added 11 points and three assists for the game.
Nebraska-Kearney at Missouri Southern
WBB – MSSU 76, UNK 72
Missouri Southern overcame a first half deficit to pick up a win over Nebraska-Kearney at home. UNK led by as much as 13 in the first half before MSSU closed the gap to pick up their first MIAA win.
For the Lions Dominique Mosley had 22 points with seven rebounds and four steals. Sharese Jones added 16 points and nine rebounds and Alexis Fitzpatrick finished with 13 points. For the Lopers Amarah Williams had 22 points with six rebounds on the night. Sydney Seberger had 12 points and Laramey Lewis added 11 points.
MBB – MSSU 99, UNK 79
Missouri Southern scored 52 points in the first half as they picked up a win at home over Nebraska-Kearney. MSSU shot .600 from the field to move to 1-0 in league play.
For the Lions Slim Magee had a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds while Marquis Addison added 21 points. Cameron Cornelius had 16 points and Jordan Talbert added 12 points. For the Lopers Connor Baranek had 26 points and added seven rebounds. Davion Pearson had 21 points and Tyler Shields added 13 points on the night.
Northeastern State at Lincoln
WBB – NSU 66, LU 53
Northeastern State outscored Lincoln 32-18 in the first half and held on to pick up a win on the road. NSU shot .571 during the first half as the moved to 1-0 in MIAA play.
For the RiverHawks Chelsey Beathard had 17 points and three assists. Fontana Tate added 13 points and Melissa Jones finished with nine points. For the Blue Tigers Hunter Yakum was the only scorer in double figures with 15 points. Angela Randall had seven points and eight total rebounds as Jeleisha Barrett also had eight boards.
MBB – NSU 87, LU 72
Northeastern State got a 43 point effort in the first half as they held on for a victory on the road at Lincoln. NSU shot .593 from the field as they moved to 1-0 in league play.
For the RiverHawks Bryton Hobbs had 21 points and Dalen Qualls had 19 points. Curtis Evans had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Jeremy McDonald had 12 points. For the Blue Tigers Clay Crouch had 21 points and added two assists and two steals. Charles Cole had 11 points and eight rebounds and James Edmond finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Central Oklahoma at Lindenwood
WBB – LWU 78, UCO 71
Lindenwood hit nine three-pointers as they picked up a win at home over Central Oklahoma. LWU overcame 22 UCO free throws to pick up their first win in league play.
For the Lions Morgan Johnson had 19 points and six rebounds on the evening. Kassidy Gengenbacher and Caroline Boulious each had 15 points as Bourlioux added a team best seven rebounds. For the Bronchos Haley Weather was the leading scores with 18 points. Julia Mason had a double-double with 15 points and a game best 13 rebounds.
MBB – LWU 88, UCO 77
Lindenwood shot .518 from the field as the picked up a home victory over Central Oklahoma. LWU shot .450 from behind the three point line as they picked up the win on the opening night of league play.
For the Lions Tyler Ressel had 19 points and five rebounds and Brandon Marquardt had 14 points and seven rebounds. Garrett Reeg, Sam Mader and Daris Smith each added 12 points. For the Bronchos Cal Andrews had 18 points and seven rebounds. Josh Gibbs had a double-double scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
