KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three singles players
and one doubles team from 2011 MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament
Champion Southwest Baptist were named All-MIAA First Team to
headline the all-conference team released Wednesday by the league
office. The selections were made by the league's nine head coaches,
and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Southwest Baptist freshman Mehak Singh was the unanimous selection
for MIAA Player of the Year and was also voted MIAA Freshman of the
Year after a season in which she went 21-1 at No. 1 singles and 9-3
at No. 2 doubles, including a perfect 13-0 combined record during
conference play. The Chandigarh, India, native was a perfect
6-0 combined at the MIAA Tournament, leading Southwest Baptist to
the title. Singh was also voted All-MIAA First Team at No. 1
singles as well as No. 2 doubles.
Northwest Missouri head coach Mark Rosewell was voted MIAA Coach of
the Year for the ninth time in women’s tennis after leading
the Bearcats to a 6-2 conference record (13-13 overall) and a run
to the championship match of the MIAA Tournament as the No. 4
seed.
Southwest Baptist junior Crystal Guiot was honored with the
Sportsmanship Award. The Bolivar, Mo., product was also named
All-MIAA Honorable Mention at No. 6 singles as well as No. 3
doubles.
MIAA regular season champion Washburn had the second-most first
team honorees with four (two singles player, one doubles duo),
followed by Northwest Missouri with two (one doubles duo) and
Emporia State with one (singles player).
