EDMOND, Okla. – Only two teams remain in the 2026 MIAA Baseball Championship. Pittsburg State and Emporia State will battle for the 2026 tournament title and the automatic bid into the NCAA postseason at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, in Edmond, Okla.
The top ten teams from the regular season advanced to the Association’s annual postseason baseball championship, hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma, May 6-9 on the Bronchos’ Wendell Simmons Field. Top-seeded Pittsburg State and No. 6 seed Emporia State are the only teams still standing with semifinal victories on Friday, May 8.
Pittsburg State claimed the program’s first-ever regular season title to earn the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament. The Gorillas have continued their dominant offense into the postseason, defeating No. 9 seed Central Oklahoma 13-2 (7 innings) in the MIAA quarterfinals and No. 4 seed Northwest Missouri 21-11 (7 innings) in the semifinals. Pitt State has totaled five home runs and 11 extra-base hits in the tournament so far.
The Gorillas last reached the MIAA championship game in 2021, falling to Central Missouri 11-2. Pitt State only has one tournament title in program history, capturing the 1999 MIAA Baseball Championship with an 8-7 win over the Mules.
Emporia State entered the postseason tournament as the No. 6 seed and upset No. 3 seed Missouri Southern 4-2 in Thursday’s MIAA quarterfinals. The quarterfinal win was the program’s first MIAA tournament victory since 2018. The Hornets then downed No. 7 seed Missouri Western 14-1 (7 innings) in the MIAA semifinals to advance to the championship game for the first time since 2015. Emporia State has won two tournament titles — the first in 2007 and the last in 2014.
The Gorillas defeated the Hornets 2-1 in their three-day MIAA series during the regular season (March 6-8). Emporia State run-ruled Pitt 14-2 (7 innings) in the series opener before the Gorillas collected back-to-back wins. The Hornets outscored the Gorillas 23-19 in the series.
