PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg State University’s women’s track and field program claimed its third straight outdoor conference crown at the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with an 84.5 point lead. The Association awarded 19 individual MIAA champions, two champion relay teams, and 63 All-MIAA performances.
All 11 MIAA women’s track and field teams were in Pittsburg, Kan., this weekend for the Association’s annual outdoor track and field championships. Pittsburg State hosted the 2026 outdoor meet May 1-3 at the University’s brand-new Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
The Gorilla women won their third consecutive outdoor championship with a team point total of 208. Missouri Southern was the women’s runner-up with 123.50 team points, followed by Northwest Missouri in third with 123 points, Central Missouri in fourth with 102 total points, and Washburn in fifth with 75.5 team points.
Pitt State totaled 19 All-MIAA performances and had five individual champions. Missouri Southern’s throwing squad highlighted the team’s runner-up showing. Nine of the Lions’ 11 All-MIAA performances were in the women’s throwing events, with three different Lions crowned individual champions of the shot put, discus and javelin. Northwest Missouri also totaled 11 All-MIAA performances and a league-leading six MIAA titles. Central Missouri Grizell Scarlett was part of three of the Jennies’ four total MIAA titles. The sprinter took home first-place honors in the women’s 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100-meter relay.
Missouri Southern thrower Briar Gillum was named the 2026 women's champinoship's High Point Award recipient. She earned 26 points for the Lions, capturing an individual title in discus and finished as the runner-up in both hammer throw and shot put.
Four MIAA women’s outdoor meet records were broken in the 2026 championship:
- Missouri Southern’s Dailynn VanDeren broke a 24-year-old record in the women’s shot put with a MIAA champion distance of 17.34 meters (56-10.75). Emporia State’s Heather Leverington has held the league’s outdoor shot put record of 16.40 meters since the 2002 outdoor championship. VanDeren’s record-breaking mark leads the NCAA Division II outdoor performances list by .33 meters.
- Central Missouri’s Grizell Scarlett set the new women’s outdoor record in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 23.04. The previous record of 23.06 was achieved by a trio of MIAA student-athletes, most recently by Pittsburg State’s Diandrenique Gaines at the 2025 outdoor championship.
- Northwest Missouri’s Kiki Witt set the new outdoor record in the women’s steeplechase with a winning time of 10:24.67. The MIAA women’s steeplechase record was previously 10:28.69, set by Witt’s former teammate, Caroline Cunningham, at the 2023 outdoor championships.
- Missouri Southern’s Keilee Johnson also set a new women’s outdoor throwing record. Johnson was crowned the MIAA champion in the javelin with a record-breaking throw of 54.70 meters (179-6). A former Lion, Elizabeth Pomatto, set the previous record of 52.57 meters at the 2021 outdoor championship.
Sixty-three All-MIAA honors were awarded at the 2026 women's outdoor championship with many student-athletes earning more than one All-MIAA recognition. To receive All-MIAA recognition, competitors had to place in the event’s top three. A complete list of the 63 All-MIAA outdoor women's track and field honors from all 21 women's events is listed below.
