SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma women’s tennis team won its second consecutive MIAA tournament title with a 4-0 shutout of Washburn in the final match of the 2026 MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship.
The top six teams for the regular season advanced to the Association’s annual women’s tennis postseason championship, hosted May 1-3 at the
Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo. Central Oklahoma and Washburn were crowned MIAA co-champions of the regular season after finishing 8-1 against league opponents. The Bronchos beat Washburn in the regular season to clinch the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament over the Ichabods.
The top-seeded Bronchos collected back-to-back wins to claim the program’s fifth MIAA women’s tennis championship title. Central Oklahoma has now won five of the league’s last seven women’s tennis championships.
It was the second straight season the Bronchos battled for the tournament title, this time, taking on No. 2 seed Washburn. Central Oklahoma took an early lead in the 2026 championship match thanks to the Bronchos’ wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. MIAA Player of the Year Mei Hasegawa teamed up with Pete Komada to defeat Washburn’s Jasel Bailey and Saajida Razick 6-2 from the No. 1 position. Central Oklahoma’s Ayaka Koga and Anika Ouwejan then defeated Washburn’s Mariana Silva and Daniela Tijaro 6-3 at the No. 2 slot.
The Bronchos quickly added a trio of straight-set singles victories with Masegawa winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Karina Yurchenko winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, and Hui Yii Soo winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6. The match was called after the Bronchos took a 4-0 lead.

With the win, Central Oklahoma also claimed the Association’s automatic ticket into the NCAA postseason. The NCAA will announce the complete tournament field of the 2026 NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship on Monday, May 4. The women’s Division II selection show is scheduled to air at 7:30 p.m. Central Time on
NCAA.com. The advancing MIAA women’s tennis teams will compete in the Central Region Championship, set for May 8-9
