KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its All-MIAA teams and major postseason award winners from the 2026 women’s tennis season. Twenty-nine NCAA Division II women’s tennis players received postseason honors, highlighted by the Association’s four major award winners.

Central Oklahoma’s Mei Hasegawa was named the MIAA Player of the Year. Northeastern State’s Daisy Barrow was selected as the MIAA Freshman of the Year, and Nebraska Kearney’s Clare Plachy was the recipient of the league’s Sportsmanship Award. Central Oklahoma Head Coach Jon Vann was voted the 2026 Coach of the Year by his peers.

The regular season matches of the 2026 MIAA women’s tennis season concluded last Saturday, April 25, with Central Oklahoma and Washburn both claiming a share of the regular season championship title. Both the Bronchos and Ichabods ended the regular season with MIAA records of 8-1.

The 2026 All-MIAA women’s tennis team consists of 18 all-conference honors and 14 honorable mention selections. The MIAA co-champions lead the league with six All-MIAA players each, followed by Northwest Missouri with five All-MIAA selections and Missouri Western with four.

Central Oklahoma’s Mei Hasegawa was crowned the 2026 season’s Player of the Year after going undefeated against MIAA opponents in the regular season. The sophomore from Nagoya, Japan, went 9-0 at No. 1 singles and 9-0 at No. 1 doubles in conference contests while owning an impressive 16-1 overall singles record and 16-2 overall doubles record. Hasegawa is also the highest-ranking player in the MIAA with an NCAA Division II national ranking of No. 20. She’s the first Broncho to claim the Player of the Year title since Mae Canete earned the honor in 2022.

Northeastern State’s Daisy Barrow was selected as the MIAA Freshman of the Year. The first-year from East Essex, England, finished the regular season with a 7-2 singles record against league opponents. She also added five conference doubles victories while playing from the No. 1 position with her All-MIAA honorable mention teammate, Renata Morales. Barrow is the first RiverHawk to be named the Freshman of the Year since Valeriia Efimenko claimed the honor in 2014.

A Loper was honored with the league’s Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive season, with Nebraska Kearney’s Clare Plachy selected as this year’s recipient. Plachy, a redshirt senior from Lincoln, Neb., helped the Lopers to four MIAA wins and a seed into the postseason tournament. She finished the regular season with three MIAA singles wins and six MIAA doubles victories, playing with All-MIAA teammate Fabiana Gamboa. Plachy and Gamboa were named a doubles honorable mention selection for their performance this season.

Bronchos’ Head Coach Joe Vann was voted the 2026 women’s tennis Coach of the Year by his peers. In his fifth year leading the Bronchos, Vann led the squad to a share of the regular season title and the top seed in the postseason tournament. This is Vann’s second MIAA Coach of the Year award and first since the 2022 season.
