PITTSBURG, Kan. – Cooper Scheck of Fort Hays State University was named the Athletic Solutions “A Game” Scholar-Athlete of the 2026 MIAA Men’s Golf Championship.
All 11 MIAA men’s golf teams are in Jefferson City, Mo., this week for the Association’s annual postseason golf championship, hosted April 13-15 at the Jefferson City Country Club. Among the ## NCAA Division II men’s golfers competing in the championship, Fort Hays State’s
Cooper Scheck was selected as the championship’s “A Game” Scholar-Athlete for his performances on and off the course.
Established by the MIAA in 2022, “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award presented by
Athletic Solutions acknowledges the overall excellence of a student-athlete by recognizing one individual who has contributed to their team’s success while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers. The student-athlete honored with the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award must be an active member of a qualifying team and must have a minimum of two terms completed at the institution.
Scheck is a senior from Dodge City, Kan., on the Tigers’ men’s golf team. He owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average with 76 credits completed and plans to graduate from the university this May with a bachelor’s degree in exercise therapy.
One of his many academic accomplishments includes completing a research project on the study of anatomical positions of the golf swing and best practices to prevent injuries, which he presented at the 2025 Kansas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD) Convention. He also has plans to present a biomechanical study of the golf swing and how to improve body positioning to increase ball speed at the university’s upcoming John Heinrichs Scholarly and Creative Activity Days (SACAD) conference, scheduled for May 1. Scheck also currently serves as the vice president of the Pre-Professional Healthcare Club and is an intern for the Neuromuscular Wellness Center on FHSU’s campus.
Scheck enters the 2026 MIAA Men’s Golf Championship with a 71.7 scoring average through 27 rounds played on the season. He’s finished in the top 12 in seven of the nine events he’s competed in, which includes two individual medalist honors — a first place in the Hillcat Classic and tied for first in the Newman Invitational. He’s competed in two of the Association’s three
designated events in the 2025-26 season and recorded top ten finishes in each event to rank 10th among MIAA golfers with 14 points. He also currently ranks 11th in the Central Region and 98th among all NCAA Division II golfers.
Scheck is the first male student-athlete from Fort Hays State to earn the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete honor and the fifth Tiger overall to claim the title. To view past “A Game” Scholar-Athlete award winners and find more information about the award, visit

The MIAA will present Scheck with the Athletic Solutions “A Game” Scholar-Athlete trophy before his round one tee time of the 2026 MIAA Men’s Golf Championship in Jefferson City. Scheck’s tee time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
