KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Washburn University President
Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek was recently named chair of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association CEO Council.
Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek was named Washburn University’s 15th president, and first female president, in 2023. An accomplished leader in higher education, she has spent more than 30 years at Washburn in various leadership roles. Selected by her peers, Dr. Mazachek will serve as the Association’s CEO Council Chair from July 1, 2025, through June of 2027.

Mike Racy. “As the MIAA continues to navigate the changing landscape of college sports, and as the MIAA helps reshape the NCAA for institutions committed to the education-centered model for intercollegiate athletics, we are fortunate as an Association to have professionals like Dr. Mazachek elected to chair our CEO Council!”
As chair, Mazachek will provide leadership for a group of university presidents representing the 14 MIAA member institutions from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The CEO Council is responsible for the overall governance of the MIAA and has final authority on budget oversight, policy setting and future planning.
Dr. Mazachek served as vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer at Washburn from 2016 until 2022. Before her role as VPAA, she was president and CEO of the Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation for 15 years where she oversaw all aspects of fundraising, alumni and stewardship programs. Earlier in her career, she served as a tenured faculty member in accounting and as dean of the Washburn University School of Business.
Dr. Mazachek earned a bachelor's degree in engineering management with an emphasis in mechanical engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology. She received a master's degree in business administration and a doctorate in accounting from the University of Kansas.
