KANSAS CITY, Mo. Ryan Sauter of Emporia State University was selected as the Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete of the 2025 MIAA Baseball Championship.

The top ten teams from the regular season advanced to the Association’s postseason baseball tournament, hosted May 7-10 by Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo. Among the 100-plus NCAA Division II baseball student-athletes competing in the championship, Emporia State’s Sauter was named the championship’s “A Game” Scholar-Athlete, presented by Mammoth.

Established by the MIAA in 2022, the Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award acknowledges the overall excellence of a student-athlete by recognizing one individual who has contributed to their team’s success while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers. The student-athlete honored with the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award must be an active member of a qualifying team and must have a minimum of two terms completed at the institution.

Sauter is a junior right-handed pitcher from Olathe, Kan., on the Hornets baseball team. Academically, Sauter has a 4.0 grade point average as a mathematics major with 101 credits completed.

On the field, the 6’3” pitcher has made 16 appearances this season and entered the postseason tournament with a 4.74 ERA. He’s allowed 19 hits, 18 runs (13 earned runs), and just three walks while striking out 26 batters in 24.2 innings pitched.

Sauter is the fifth student-athlete from Emporia State to earn the Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete award and the first Hornet baseball player to receive the honor. To view past “A Game” Scholar-Athlete award winners and find more information about the award, visit theMIAA.com/scholar-athletes.
