TEMPE, Ariz. – MIAA/GAC men’s tennis players collected all four Central Region ITA awards as Henry Dornbusch was honored as the 2025 ITA Division II Men’s Most Improved Player, announced by the association earlier this week.
Augustana’s Henry Dornbusch headlined the MIAA/GAC's honors as he was adorned as the 2025 ITA Division II and Central Region’s Most Improved Player. A First Team All-MIAA/GAC singles and Second Team All-MIAA/GAC doubles selection with partner Conrad Koach, Dornbusch has been a crucial part of the Augustana tennis team for the last four seasons. The senior secured a 18-2 record in the No. 1 singles slot that included six ranked wins with three over top-25 opponents. Opening the season on a nine match win streak with partner Koach, Dornbusch’s doubles performance was highlighted this season with a win over Washburn’s No. 1 doubles pair on February 23. The Stapelmoor, Germany, native is currently ranked No. 15 in singles and No. 28 in doubles.
Aiding Washburn to its third straight MIAA Men’s Tennis Championship title and second straight NCAA National Championship appearance is Santiago Rendo as he transitioned into an assistant coach role this season after a three year career with the Ichabods. The Central Region's Assistant Coach of the Year, Rendo helped the Washburn squad to a 21-3 record this season as the team continues to advance into the postseason after making the national quarterfinals for the second time in program history on Tuesday.
The MIAA Player of the Year continues to add to his accolades as Tim Hammes of Washburn was honored as the Central Region’s Senior Player of the Year after being named the region’s Player to Watch last season. This year, Hammes has compiled a 27-7 singles record with a 15-6 mark at the No. 1 spot while going 16-6 in duals. In doubles action, he is 23-8 and 13-7 when playing on court one as he and the rest of the Ichabod team look to advance to the NCAA Division II title match. The Krefeld, Germany, native entered the spring season following an ITA Central Region Singles Championship in the fall and ITA Cup Doubles National Championship with partner Matthew Earle.
Rounding out all-region honors is Dominik Wijntjes of Northwest Missouri as the Player to Watch. In his first season with the Bearcats, the sophomore earned a spot on the All-MIAA/GAC Singles First-Team by posting a team-best 18-6 record in No. 1 singles while also tabbed 14 doubles wins.
Postseason men’s tennis continues as No. 9 Washburn takes on No. 3 Barry University in NCAA Division II Championship quarterfinal action on May 21 for a spot in the National Championship.
