KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its postseason awards and All-MIAA teams for the 2024-25 women’s basketball season. Twenty-six student-athletes earned All-MIAA honors with five claiming the Association’s major postseason awards.

The 2024-25 regular season concluded on Saturday, March 1, with 10 teams advancing to the MIAA Basketball Championships, hosted March 5-9 in Kansas City. All 26 selections are members of qualifying teams and will be honored on court before tip-off of their first postseason contests.

Fort Hays State led the league with five All-MIAA honors – two First Team selections and three Honorable Mentions. The Tigers’ two First Team honorees, Katie DeGarmo and Olivia Hollenbeck, also claimed the Association’s top postseason awards with DeGarmo crowned the Player of the Year and Hollenbeck the Defensive Player of the Year.

Katie Wagner-DeGarmo was named the MIAA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She's the Association's first back-to-back women's basketball Player of the Year since Washburn's Crystal Walker in 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.

The fifth-year graduate student from Maize, Kan., leads the No. 6-ranked Fort Hays State with 16.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. She ranks third in the league in both categories while her 2.9 assists and 1.6 blocks per game also rank in the league’s top 14.  A top ten shooter in the league, the back-to-back player of the year and reigning MIAA Tournament MVP currently owns a .495 field goal percentage (190-of-284) and a .775 three throw percentage (77-of-102).

DeGarmo’s teammate of five seasons, Olivia Hollenbeck, was tabbed the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-3  graduate student from Lincoln, Neb., collected the second-most steals and third-most blocks in the regular season. She’s also averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. The defensive specialist is also one of the league’s top shooters, averaging 16.5 points per game (5th in MIAA) with an impressive .621 field goal percentage  (2nd in the MIAA).

Central Missouri’s Reese Schaaf and Washburn’s Payton Sterk shared the league’s Newcomer of the Year title, and Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Anna Trusty was named the MIAA Freshman of the Year.

A 5-11 junior transfer from Drury University, Reese Schaaf ended the 2024-25 regular season with an MIAA-leading 18.0 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Her 541 total points and 297 total boards were also league highs. Schaaf’s .500 field goal percentage (207-of-414)  and .837 free throw percentage (108-of-129) also each rank in the league’s top five.

Payton Sterk scored the second-most points in the regular season with 477. The 5-10 junior transfer from Cal State East Bay was another one of the league’s top shooters, especially from behind the arc. Sterk averaged at least two threes a game, hitting 39.2 percent (62-of-158) from deep – the second-best three-point field goal percentage in the league. Her .839 free throw percentage also ranked second in the league.

Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Anna Trusty was the only first-year student-athlete to rank in the league’s top 10 in multiple categories. The 6-0 freshman guard from Greenwood, Ark., led the MIAA newcomers this season with 14.5 points per game with a team-best .448 (137-of-306) field goal percentage. Trusty also added 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while helping the Lions advance to the MIAA championship in their first year in the league.

Pittsburg State head coach Amanda Davied was voted the MIAA Coach of the Year by her peers after leading the No. 10-ranked Gorillas to the 2024-25 regular season title and the top seed in the MIAA postseason championship with a league record of 18-1. The regular season crown was Davied’s first and the program’s first since the 2016-17 season. This is Davied’s first MIAA Coach of the Year honor.
