KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its Week Eight softball pitcher and hitter athletes honors. Kiki Pickens of Missouri Southern is named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week for back-to-back weeks while Abbey Rogers of Rogers State collects her first MIAA Hitter of the Week award of the season.
HITTER OF THE WEEK: Abbey Rogers, Rogers State
Abbey Rogers had a remarkable week for the Hillcats, guiding them to a 4-2 record with her nine RBI, seven runs scored and a home run while going 12-for-19 (.632) on the week with four multi-hit games. The senior also eclipsed a milestone of 200 career hits and is just the third Hillcat in school history to accomplish the feat, reaching the mark with her 5-for-6 and five RBI performance in a double header sweep over No. 18 Oklahoma Christian. In RSU’s double header against No. 10 Central Oklahoma, the Midwest City, Oklahoma, native accumulated two more RBI and a home run while going 5-for-6 again at the plate. She currently leads the MIAA in on base percentage (.568), ranks second in the MIAA in batting average (.500) and doubles (12) and is third in hits (51) and slugging percentage (.843).
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Kiki Pickens, Missouri Southern
Reigning in another Pitcher of the Week honor is Kiki Pickens after recording 20 strikeouts through 12.2 innings between her three outings last week. Her week was spotlighted in the Lions game one shutout win over Emporia State where the sophomore nabbed 12 strikeouts in just seven innings of work while only allowing two hits. In Friday’s contest against Washburn, she threw five innings and had eight strikeouts. Pickens leads the conference in strikeouts (114), opposing batting average (.147) and is tied in wins (12).
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
MIAA HITTERS
Terin Ritz, Central Oklahoma
With a staggering 9-for-12 showing at the plate this weekend, Terin Ritz was a force for her opponents with five RBI, five runs scored, along with a home run and double to assist the Bronchos to a 4-0 record. The senior went perfect from the plate twice, opening her weekend 3-for-3 in a game one 7-4 victory against No. 6 Rogers State while contributing a run and an RBI. After going 3-for-4 in game one against Northeastern State, she delivered another impressive performance in closing double header action as she sailed a three run homer and went 2-for-2.
Bailey Dillon, Missouri Southern
Putting together a .700 (7-for-10) performance at the plate was Bailey Dillon as she finished her weekend with five runs, one RBI, one double, two stolen bases while drawing four walks. Consistent across all four games, Dillon notched at least a hit and run scored, including three multi-hit games, to help the Lions split both double header contests against Washburn and Emporia State. Dillon currently leads the MIAA with 27 bases stolen and is tied at the top with four triples.
Brooke Flewelling, Emporia State
Brooke Flewelling floated two home runs for the Hornets last week with one coming in a 6-3 Emporia State win over Missouri Southern. In that contest, Flewelling went 3-for-4 while also recording a double, an RBI and a run. The sophomore found her second homer of the weekend in the first game against Pittsburg State.
MIAA Pitchers
Brooke Weimer, Central Missouri
Recording her first career no-hitter was Brooke Weimer commanding the circle with eight strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Missouri Western. In the victory, Weimer reached her 200th career strikeout and also nabbed eight strikeouts in the Jennies previous 5-3 win over Northwest Missouri. In 14 total innings of action, the sophomore paved herself a 2-0 record with 16 strikeouts while allowing just seven hits and three earned runs.
Terin Ritz, Central Oklahoma
Terin Ritz had a dominant weekend on the defensive side as well, going 2-0 in the circle with sweeps over No. 6 Rogers State and Northeastern State. The senior opened up her outing by retiring six batters in 6.2 innings of action against the Hillcats and capped it off with a perfect game over NSU, adding four more strikeouts in 6.0 innings to her weekend total.
