INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Nebraska Kearney wrestling team scored 115.0 points at the 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship to take home the national champion title for the fifth time in program history.
The 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship took place March 14-15 inside the Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis, Ind. Twenty-four wrestlers from all six MIAA wrestling member intuitions advanced to the national stage with the Lopers reclaiming the Division II crown for the first time the 2022 season.
Nebraska Kearney captured the national title with national runner-up finishes and eight All-American honors. Central Oklahoma, the defending back-to-back national champion, finished fifth at the 2025 national championship with 55.5 team points. Central Missouri placed seventh with 43.0 total points, marking the Mules highest national championship finish in program history.
The MIAA totaled two individual national champions, had four individual national runners-up and collected 17 All-American honors.
Central Missouri’s Jakason Burks was crowned the Division II national champion at 125 pounds. Burks becomes the sixth Mules wrestler to win at least one national title and the first since former Mules standout Frank Cagnina in 2015. The senior from Omaha, Neb., defeated Nebraska Kearney’s Zachary Ourada 5-2 in the 125 national championship match.
Central Oklahoma’s Gabe Johnson was the individual title at 157 pounds, giving the Bronchos an individual champion for the fifth straight year. Johnson fought off a takedown try by St. Cloud State's Joel Jesuroga and turned it into the winning takedown, scoring with 35 seconds left in the sudden-victory period for a 4-1 triumph and be crowned Division II’s 157-pound national champion for the second straight season.
