KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Pittsburg State Gorillas were once again selected MIAA favorites in the men’s and women’s preseason coaches polls for the 2024-26 indoor track and field seasons.

Pittsburg State was the unanimous favorite among MIAA head coaches in both the men’s and women’s preseason polls. The Gorillas have swept the Association’s indoor and outdoor track and field championships for the last two consecutive seasons.

The Pitt State men are also the three-time defending NCAA Division II indoor track and field national champions (2023, 2024, 2025), and four-time defending champions in Division II’s outdoor national championship (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025). The Gorilla women are also the defending NCAA Division II indoor national champions and earned a third-place finish at the last outdoor national championship last May.

Northwest Missouri, Washburn, Missouri Southern and Central Missouri were each selected in the MIAA coaches’ top five in both the men’s and women’s preseason polls.

The Bearcats are the defending runners-up from the men’s and women’s 2025 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Northwest men went on to earn a fifth-place finish at last year’s indoor national championship – the program’s highest placing since 1987.
