MIAA Announces 2025 Women's Soccer Postseason Awards and All-MIAA Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its major postseason awards and All-MIAA teams from the 2025 women’s soccer season, selected by head coaches from all 13 MIAA women's soccer institutions. Sixty-five MIAA student-athletes earned All-MIAA honors for their performances in the 2025 season.
 
The final matches of the regular season concluded on Wednesday, November 5. The top eight teams advance to the 2025 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship, led by the Pittsburg State Gorillas.
 
Four players headlined the 2025 MIAA women’s soccer postseason awards by earning the league’s major honors. Pittsburg State’s Carrie Cunningham was crowned the Offensive Player of the Year, Washburn’s Bella Kennedy was named the Defensive Player of the Year, Rogers State’s Calais Butts earned the Goalkeeper of the Year title, and Washburn’s Leah Henke was honored as the league’s Freshman of the Year. Pittsburg State’s Head Coach Wes Branstetter was voted the Coach of the Year by his peers.
 
Carrie Cunningham helped the Gorillas make history this season as Pittsburg State captured its first MIAA women’s soccer regular season championship in the program’s second season. Cunningham, a sophomore from Olathe, Kan., led the Gorillas’ offense with 12 points (five goals, two assists) in 17 matches played.  
 
Kennedy Belle was crowned the Defensive Player of the Year after helping the Ichabods’ defense secure 11 shutouts in the regular season. A senior from Auburn, Kan., Belle also contributed 18 shots and two assists on offense.
 
Rogers State’s Calais Butts was named the Goalkeeper of the Year after registering a league-leading 121 saves. The junior from Edmonton, Canada, played all 17 matches and 1,530 matches in goal for the Hillcats.
 
Washburn’s second major postseason honor went to freshman standout Leah Henke. The first year forward from Wichita, Kan., led Washburn’s offense with 19 points (nine goals, one assist), helping the Ichabods to a runner-up finish in the regular season.
 
Pitt State’s Wes Branstetter earned the Coach of the Year title after leading the Gorillas to the program’s first MIAA regular season title in the program’s second season. The second-year head coach led a Gorillas team that ranked first in the league in shots (328) and shots on goal (150), second in goals (37) and assists (30), and third in goals allowed (11).

The 2025 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship begins Sunday, November 9, on the campuses of the four highest seeds. The winners of Sunday’s quarterfinal matches will advance to the final rounds of the postseason tournament, hosted at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. The semifinal matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, and the championship match is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.
