Gorillas Win First Ever Women's Soccer Regular Season Title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Pittsburg State University captured its first-ever MIAA women’s soccer regular season championship with a 2-1 win over Missouri Southern in the regular season finale. The Gorillas will enter the 2025 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship as the top seed and will host a quarterfinal match in Pittsburg.
 
The MIAA women’s soccer regular season wrapped up on Wednesday evening, November 5, as teams battled for a place in the league’s 2025 Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament. In the program’s second season, Pittsburg State was crowned the league’s regular season champion with an MIAA record of 9-1-2.
 
The 2025 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship begins Sunday, November 9, with the top four seeds hosting quarterfinal matches on their campuses. After missing the postseason tournament in the program’s first season, the Gorillas take on their first MIAA championship as the top seed in the tournament. No. 1 seed Pittsburg State will host No. 8 seed Northeastern State at 1 p.m. at the Gorillas Soccer Pitch in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
Washburn, the two-time defending regular season champion, finished as the league’s runner-up with an MIAA record of 8-0-4. The No. 2-seeded Ichabods will host No. 7 seed Emporia State at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Washburn’s Yager Stadium in Topeka, Kan.
 
Central Missouri claimed the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament with an MIAA record of 7-2-3. The Jennies will host No. 6-seeded Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Warrensburg, Mo.
 
Missouri Western clinched the No. 4 seed and the final hosting privilege with a conference record of 6-2-4. The Griffons are set to host No. 5 seed Northwest Missouri at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Mo., at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
 
The winners of Sunday’s quarterfinal matches will advance to the final rounds of the 2025 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship, hosted at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. The semifinal matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, with the championship match set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.
