KANSAS CITY, MO – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its first Wrestler of the Week awards in the 2025-26 season. Two student-athletes excelled opening week to share the MIAA Wrestler of the Week title in week one.

CO-MIAA WRESTLER OF THE WEEK: Jason Henschel, 133 lbs., Central Oklahoma
Jason Henschel led No. 11 Central Oklahoma to its first MIAA victory of the season, defeating Ouachita on opening weekend in the 2025-26 wrestling season. Henschel upset the No. 1-ranked 133-pound wrestler in the country to spark a 47-0 runaway by the Bronchos. Henschel, a senior 133-pounder who redshirted last year after transferring to Central Oklahoma from Northern State, knocked off Ouachita’s top-ranked James Anderson 10-5 for the most impressive win of the dual. Later in the week, Henschel added a 22-6 technical fall win in the Bronchos’ exhibition match with Division I’s No. 22-ranked Arkansas-Little Rock.

CO-MIAA WRESTLER OF THE WEEK: Garrett Lyons, 149 lbs., Central Missouri
Garrett Lyons led the Mules to a perfect 3-0 start to the season as the Mules competed at the 2025 Missouri Duals in Columbia, Mo., on Sunday, Nov. 2. The junior 149-pounder went 3-0 on the day, earning bonus-point victories in all three matches to help Central Missouri defeat Missouri Valley (38-6), Central Methodist (30-15), and Drury (30-15). Lyons opened the event with an 11-1 major decision over Missouri Valley’s Kristofer Arrey before adding a 21-6 technical fall against Central Methodist’s Cole Gros. He closed out the day in dominant fashion, pinning Drury’s Nathan Wishne in 2:44 to secure the sweep for the Mules. Throughout opening weekend, Lyons accounted for 15 team points and helped Central Missouri to its first 3-0 season-opening performance since 2021.
