INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA released its annual data featuring the Division II Federal Graduation Rates and Academic Success Rates. According to the latest Academic Success Rate data, the Division II student-athlete graduation rate remains at an all-time high, with the overall four-cohort rate remaining at 77 percent.
The
Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) is required by law to be calculated and published for all full-time college students, and separately for student-athletes who receive athletic financial aid. The
Academic Success Rate (ASR) is required by the NCAA for all Division II student-athletes. This data includes student-athletes who transfer into a school and removes student-athletes who left the school in good academic standing. In addition, given the partial-scholarship financial aid model of Division II, the ASR data includes student-athletes not on athletically related financial aid.
MIAA institutions combined produced an ASR of 72 percent and an FGR of 56 percent among student-athletes in this period’s cohorts (2015-2018).
MIAA student-athletes perform favorably in comparison to the general student body of all 14 MIAA institutions. The conference's FGR of 56 percent is ten points higher than the general student body's 46 percent. That 10-point difference is the fourth-largest gap among all 23 Division II conferences.
Among all MIAA-sponsored sports, women’s golf proves to be the most successful in terms of graduate rate, while women’s golf and softball tie for the Association’s highest ASR. Men’s tennis student-athletes have the highest FGR and ASR among the league’s men’s sports.
