WICHITA, Kan. – For the first time in championship history, Missouri Western was crowned champion of the MIAA women’s soccer postseason tournament. The No. 4-seeded Griffons defeated No. 6 seed Central Oklahoma 2-1 in overtime to claim the program’s first-ever MIAA championship title.
The 2025 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship concluded on Saturday, November 15, at the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas. Missouri Western collected three straight wins in the championship to claim the tournament title for the first time in championship history. The victory awards the Griffons with the Association’s automatic ticket to the NCAA Division II postseason.
The Griffons were the first to score in the championship match as Kiara Carr scored within the first six minutes off an assist from Rosemary Pujado. The Bronchos answered in the 19th minute with a solo goal from Jane Lockhart. The remaining minutes of regulation finished scoreless to take the match into overtime.
Missouri Western’s Ava Martin scored the Griffons’ game-winning goal in the 100th minute, connecting on a cross into the box from Carr.
The Griffons finished the match with a game-high 12 corner kicks and 13 total shots, seven of which were on goal. Missouri Western’s keeper Morgan Byrd totaled five saves in goal.
The Bronchos had just three corner kicks and took 11 shots with six falling on goal. Central Oklahoma’s keeper Avery Bass also collected five saves in the match.
