KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Abby Kinney of Missouri Western State University was named the Athletic Solutions “A Game” Scholar-Athlete of the 2025 MIAA Women’s Cross Country Championship.

All 13 MIAA women’s cross country teams were in Pittsburg, Kansas, on Saturday, October 25, for the 2025 MIAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Pittsburg State University at the Four Oaks Golf Course. Among the 100-plus NCAA Division II student-athletes competing in the championship, Missouri Western’s Abby Kinney was named the championship’s “A Game” Scholar-Athlete, presented by Athletic Solutions. 

Established by the MIAA in 2022, the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award acknowledges the overall excellence of a student-athlete by recognizing one individual who has contributed to their team’s success while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers. The student-athlete honored with the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award must be an active member of a qualifying team and must have a minimum of two terms completed at the institution.

Kinney is a graduate student from Waukee, Iowa, on the Griffons cross country team. She’s currently pursuing her second degree as a Population Health Management major after already earning a bachelor’s degree from the university in Health Information Management in December 2024. She continues to own a perfect 4.0 grade point average with 128 credits completed. 

Also a member of the Griffons track and field team, Kinney was named the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete of the 2025 MIAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship last May. She is the sixth Griffon to earn the “A Game” Scholar-Athlete honor and the first to claim the title at two separate championships.
