EDMOND, Okla. – The top two seeds in the 2024 MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship will battle for the tournament title on Sunday, May 4, at Edmond Center Court in Edmond, Okla. The championship match will feature the No. 1 seed Nebraska Kearney and No. 2 seed Missouri Western – two programs fighting for their first-ever MIAA Championship title.
The 2024 MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship match will begin with the doubles competition at 7:30 a.m. at Edmond Center Court. Following the conclusion of doubles play, the Lopers and Griffons will begin singles action at the Oak Tree Country Club where the Association’s 2024 champion will be crowned.
The Lopers and Griffons received first-round byes as the top two seeds in the Association’s postseason tournament. The championship’s semifinal Saturday began at 10 a.m. and was delayed mid-match for several hours due to inclement weather in Edmond.
Nebraska Kearney, the MIAA regular season champion, downed Washburn 4-2 to advance to the MIAA title match for the first time in program history. The Lopers swept the doubles competition and collected wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to lock in the victory.
Missouri Western swept Northeastern State 4-0 in the MIAA semifinals. The Griffons captured the doubles point and received singles decisions at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 positions to end the match early. Western is returning to the MIAA championship match for the first time since 2022. The Griffons have also never won the MIAA tournament title.
The last matchup between Nebraska Kearney and Western was during their MIAA dual in the regular season on . The Lopers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to come back and beat the Griffons 4-3.
