EMPORIA, Kan. – Pittsburg State swept the team titles at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, becoming the first Division II institution to win both men’s and women’s titles at the event since 2008.
Emporia State University hosted the 2024 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 23-25 in the Hornets’ Welch Stadium on the Witten Track in Emporia, Kan.
The MIAA totaled nine individual national champions and one national championship relay team at the national championships. The league also finished with 60 individual First Team All-America performances (31 men and 29 women) and nine First Team All-America Relay Teams (five men’s, four women’s). MIAA men recorded top-eight finishes in all but two of the championship’s events while the MIAA women collected top-eight finishes in all but five events.
The Gorilla women captured the national title after finishing as the national runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in March while the Gorilla men claimed their third straight outdoor title. The men also captured the NCAA Division II Indoor national title in March. Pittsburg State become the first Division II institution to claim women's and men's outdoor titles in the same season since Abilene Christian University in 2008.
The 2024 championships marked the fourth time Emporia State’s Welch Stadium has hosted outdoor nationals. There were seven NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship meet records and 22 facility records set during the three days of competition. The NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships return to Emporia, Kan. in 2026.

MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Pittsburg State totaled 78 points to capture the program’s third consecutive outdoor title. Seventy-eight points is the most Pitt State has totaled at the national stage and the championship’s highest team point total since 2016 (St. Augustine, 85 points). The Gorillas men compiled points in 10 different disciplines while securing four individual national champions. West Texas A&M University finished as the national runner-up for a second straight year with 64 team points.
Missouri Southern men totaled 42 points to secure their highest outdoor finish in program history at fourth place, topping their record-setting fifth-place finish in the 2023 national championships. Central Missouri men finished 12th with 20 points, followed by Washburn in 14th with 18.5 points and Northwest Missouri in 15th with 17.5 team points. Nebraska Kearney (22nd, 11 points), Lincoln (34th, 6 points) and Fort Hays State (59th, 1.5 points) also placed in the championship’s top 60.
The MIAA men finished with 31 individual First Team All-America selections and five First Team All-America relay teams. The men also captured six individual national champion crowns and one national championship relay team:

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Pittsburg State women claimed the program’s second all-time Division II outdoor national championship title and first since 2016. The Gorillas totaled 100 points across 12 different disciplines, marking the national championship’s highest point total since 2005 (Lincoln, 108 points). Adams State University finished as the national runner-up with a distant 72 points.
Northwest Missouri totaled 22 team points to finish 11th, followed by Lincoln in a tie for 13th with 19 total points. Missouri Southern placed 20th with 12 points, followed by Washburn in a tie for 23rd with 10 points and Central Missouri tied 34th with six points.
The MIAA women finished with 29 individual First Team All-America selections and four First Team All-America relay teams. The women also captured three individual national champion crowns:
