2024 Women's Tennis Postseason Awards, All-MIAA Teams Announced

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its women’s tennis postseason awards and All-MIAA teams from the 2024 season.
 
Twenty-one individuals and 12 doubles duos earned All-MIAA honors in the 2024 women’s tennis season while five individuals from five different institutions tabbed the Association's major postseason awards.
 
Washburn’s Maja Jung was crowned the MIAA Player of the Year. A senior from Bielefeld, Germany, Jung owns an 18-3 singles record and a 15-4 doubles record. Playing mostly from the No. 1 position, Jung went 7-1 in singles and 6-2 in doubles against MIAA opponents. She ended the regular season on a nine-match win streak, helping the Ichabods to the No.4 seed in the MIAA postseason tournament.
 
Nebraska Kearney’s Fabiana Gamboa was named the MIAA Freshman of the Year. The first-year from Maracaibo, Venezuela finished the regular season with a 13-7 singles record and an 8-4 doubles record. She’s competed at almost every position this season and owns records of 2-0 at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Gamboa helped the Lopers clinch the MIAA regular season championship for the first time in program history. Nebraska Kearney enters the Association’s postseason tournament as the top seed with a league record of 7-1.
 
Fort Hays State’s Grace Unruh, Missouri Western’s Maria Saez and Northwest Missouri’s Laura Prieto Sieiro each tied for the MIAA Sportsmanship Award.
 
Lopers head coach Scott Shafer was voted as the MIAA Coach of the Year by his peers. In his 11th season, Shafer led Nebraska Kearney to its first-ever MIAA regular season title and the top seed in the postseason tournament. The Lopers finished 7-1 in the MIAA and own a record of 18-4 overall.
