KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association released its updated standings for the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Cup following the completion of the winter seasons.

Presented by McCownGordon Construction, the MIAA Commissioner's Cup is the Association’s all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the league’s top-performing school in conference play.

Pittsburg State continues to lead the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Cup Standings following the completion of the Association’s winter seasons. Northwest Missouri remains in second place in the standings while Fort Hays State jumped four spots to now sit in third. Central Missouri and Washburn conclude the standing’s top five.

After averaging 11.9 points per sport in the 2023 fall seasons, Pitt State increased its points per sport average to 12.4 this winter. The Gorillas track and field programs captured both men’s and women’s titles at the MIAA Indoor Championships for the third straight season. Pitt State women won the championship with a record-crushing 221 team points while the men’s 212 team points was also a new MIAA indoor record. Both Pitt State basketball programs finished with MIAA records of 15-7. The Gorilla men finished third in the league and the Gorilla women finished in a tie for fifth.

Northwest Missouri finished in the top three in all four of the Bearcats’ winter sports. The Bearcat men’s basketball team captured Northwest’s lone MIAA title in capturing the 2023-24 regular season championship. The Bearcats went 20-2 against MIAA opponents for their second consecutive season with 20 conference wins. Northwest’s women’s basketball finished the season in a three-way tie for the league’s runner-up. The Bearcats went on to claim the No. 2 seed over the Tigers and Lions in the MIAA postseason tournament due to the Association’s tiebreaker protocol. The Bearcat women also earned a runner-up finish at the MIAA Indoor Championships while the Bearcat men finished third.

Fort Hays State’s basketball program’s both finished second in the league. The Tiger men were the MIAA runners-up with a league record of 17-5 while the Tiger women joined the Bearcats in a tie for second with a league record of 16-6. At the league’s indoor championships, Fort Hays State women placed third and the men finished fourth. The Tigers wrestling team also added to Fort Hays State’s winter average with a third place in the MIAA standings.

The Commissioner’s Cup point system reflects the finish of each team in conference play. The number of points awarded per sport is based on the number of schools that participate in that particular sport. Each institution’s grand point total is then divided by the athletic programs it sponsors, giving an overall average finish for the school.

The complete standings of the 2023-2024 MIAA Commissioner’s Cup following the fall and winter sport seasons are listed below. The final standings for this year’s cup will be announced after the completion of the league’s spring sport seasons.
