UNK’s Hemmer Named Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete of 2024 Women’s Cross Country Championship

ST. JOSEPH, MO – Mara Hemmer of the University of Nebraska Kearney was named the Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete of the 2024 MIAA Women’s Cross Country Championship.
 
All 13 MIAA women’s cross country programs will compete in the league’s postseason championship, hosted by Missouri Western State University on Saturday, October 26 in St. Joseph, Mo. Among all the student-athletes who qualified to compete in the 2024 championship, Nebraska Kearney’s Mara Hemmer was selected as the championship’s “A Game” Scholar-Athlete, presented by Mammoth.

Established by the MIAA in 2022, the Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete Award acknowledges the overall excellence of a student-athlete by recognizing one individual who has contributed to their team’s success, while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers. To be honored as a Mammoth “A Game” Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be an active member of a qualifying postseason team and have a minimum of two terms completed at the institution.

A senior from Fremont, Neb., Hemmer is a 4.00 biology student with 100 credits completed. She’s competed in two events this season, which included a season-best 31st-place finish at the Platte River Rumble with a six-kilometer time of 24:34.8. Hemmer and the Lopers event the championship as the No. 17 ranked team in Division II.
 
The 2024 MIAA Cross Country Championships are scheduled to begin with the men’s 8k race at 10 a.m. on Saturday at MWSU’s Griffon Cross Country Course. The women’s 6k race will follow at 11 a.m. Hemmer will be honored with the Championship’s “A Game” trophy, presented by Mammoth, during the championship’s awards presentation at noon.
