KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced a new community partnership with the Heartstrings Community Foundation. In addition, the MIAA has agreed to participate in the Heartstrings FRIENDS in Business Campaign this spring.

Heartstrings Community Foundation is a Kansas City organization which assists adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, productive, independent lives through successful employment opportunities in the Kansas City community.

The foundation operates the following successful businesses in the greater Kansas City area, which provide employment opportunities for those with intellectual/developmental disabilities:

• Goody Delivery® is a mobile candy company providing high quality snacks to of?ce complexes in the KC Metro area.
• Sacks on Santa Fe is a boutique clothing store in Downtown Overland Park, Kansas, offering resale clothing (for men or women) as well as a selection of “new” accessories and home décor items.
• Heartfully Made offers employee made arts and crafts, including wreaths, custom pallets, home and garden creations, and greeting cards.  All items are hand-crafted, created with love, and sold at Sacks on Santa Fe.

In addition to raising money for the Heartstrings Community Foundation during the MIAA Basketball Tournament (March 6-10 in Historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City), the MIAA is proud to participate this year in Heartstring’s FRIENDS in Business Campaign.

“As Kansas City’s only NCAA conference office, the MIAA has a responsibility to partner with Kansas City community organizations”, explained MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy. “Heartstrings is an organization helping Kansas City residents live meaningful and purpose-driven lives, and we are proud to partner with them this year!”

The MIAA became a client of Heartstrings Goody Delivery in 2017. As the MIAA expands its partnership with Heartstrings, the Association asks that alumni and supporters of MIAA schools consider a donation to the FRIENDS in Business Campaign so that Heartstrings may continue to offer these wonderful goods, services, and employment opportunities.
