Gorilla Women Tabbed MIAA Favorites in 2023 Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association released its preseason coaches poll for the 2023 women's outdoor track and field season.
 
Pittsburg State, the defending MIAA outdoor champions, were unanimously selected to take home the title again this May. The Gorillas received 11 first place votes and totaled 121 points in the poll. Pittsburg State also took home the MIAA title at the 2023 Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted at PSU, February 24-26.
 
Northwest Missouri was voted second in the coaches preseason poll with 103 points. Just two points behind the Gorillas was Central Missouri in third with 101 points. The Jennies are the defending runners-up of the Association’s outdoor championship.
 
Missouri Southern totaled 96 points and the remaining first place vote to finished fourth while the top-five finished in a tie between Fort Hays State and Lincoln. The Tigers and Blue Tigers each totaled 76 points.
 
Washburn was slatted seventh in the poll with 59 points, Nebraska Kearney was picked eighth with 54 points and Missouri Western finished ninth with 39 points. Rogers State collected 27 points to round out the poll’s top-10, while Emporia State and Central Oklahoma concluded the poll in 11th and 12th, respectively.

Voting on the polls is conducted among all 12 MIAA women’s track and field head coaches.
