KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association released updated standings for its 2022-23 Commissioner’s Cup, presented by McCownGordon.

Through the completion of the 2022-23 fall and winter seasons, Pittsburg State continues to lead the MIAA Commissioner’s Cup standings. The Gorillas lead with an 11.7 points per sport average while the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri are close behind with an 11.5 average. Nebraska Kearney is currently in third with an average score of 9.7.

After capturing two MIAA titles in the fall, Pittsburg State add two more titles in the winter, winning both the Association’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field championships. The Gorillas women’s basketball team also earned a fourth-place finish in the MIAA standings to put PSU in the top-five of three of its four winter sports.

Northwest Missouri had four of its five fall teams finish their seasons in the top-three of their respected standings. The Bearcat men’s basketball team added a MIAA championship to their winter points while Northwest’s track and field teams also contributed to its winter success as the women’s team took second and the men’s team placed fourth at the 2023 indoor championships.

The Lopers had two runner-up finishes in the fall but claimed their first MIAA title of the year this winter in women’s basketball. The UNK wrestling team also finished second in the league standings and the men’s track and field team had a top-five finish at the indoor championships.

“It was another highly competitive winter season for the Association; and you know it’s competitive when two of our MIAA champions finished their seasons as NCAA champions.” said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy. “I’d like to thank our MIAA partner McCownGordon who is in its fifth year sponsoring this award. Our league’s values of excellence and integrity align with their corporate values, making this award sponsorship an appropriate fit.”
