KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its Baseball Athletes of the Week for sixth week of competition in the 2023 season.
 
MIAA Hitter of the Week – Trevor McCollum – Washburn    
Trevor McCollum led the Ichabod offense in four games last week, batting .563 (9-for-16) with two walks and eight runs scored. The sophomore was also a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases and only had one strikeout in his 16 at bats. In the series opener against Northeastern State, McCollum was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a walk and scored two runs and stole three bases.
 
MIAA Pitcher of the Week – Cole Woods – Missouri Southern    
Cole Woods carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning in the Lions’ 5-4 win over No. 5-ranked Central Oklahoma to begin the MIAA series. The senior right hander from Claremore, Okla., only had his no-hit bid broken up by a pinch hitter in the ninth. Woods finished with nine strikeouts with three looking and one walk issued in 8.0 innings. This season, Woods is 4-1 with 34.2 innings pitched in six starts while striking out 39 and opponents hitting .219 against him.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Hitters
Prescott Horn – Rogers State
Prescott Horn led the Hillcats to a 3-1 week hitting .556 (10-18) with nine RBI, seven runs scored and three extra bases hits, including a home run and two doubles, as well as a stolen base. In the mid-week win over East Central, Horn went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. In the 15-10 comeback win against Fort Hays State, the senior went 3-for-6 with a three-run homer.
 
Ed Scott – Fort Hays State
Ed Scott led the Tigers with seven hits, three doubles, two steals and an on-base percentage of .647 across three games against Rogers State. He batted .538 and slugged .769 while scoring five runs and driving in five more.
 
Pitchers
Noah Geekie – Emporia State
Noah Geekie struck out 10 batters in 8.0 innings of Emporia State’s 3-2 win over Central Missouri this past Sunday.
 
Rane Pfeifer – Washburn
Rane Pfeifer turned in a solid start against Northeastern State as he went 5 1/3 innings without allowing a hit and issued just three walks in that time. The senior finished his outing going seven innings and allowing just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out a career-high 13 and limiting the RiverHawks to a .087 batting average. He recorded four 1-2-3 innings and struck out the side his last inning out.
