KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its women’s basketball postseason awards and All-MIAA teams for the 2022-23 season.
Thirty-one MIAA women’s basketball student-athletes earned All-MIAA recognition for the 2022-23 season. Central Missouri’s Brooke Littrell was selected the Association’s Player of the Year. Missouri Western’s Connie Clarke tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year title. Pittsburg State’s Harper Schreiner was named the league’s Freshman of the year, and Nebraska Kearney head coach Carrie Eighmey was voted the Coach of the Year.
The 2022-23 MIAA Player of the Year Brooke Littrell ranked second in the league in scoring and rebounding. The 6-2 redshirt sophomore from Green City, Mo., averaged 19.4 points per game on 50.3 percent shooting (176-of-350) to total just over 500 points in the regular season. Her 86.9 percent shooting from the free throw line also ranked second in the MIAA while her 126 free throws made lead the league. She also ranked in the league’s top-25 with 2.3 assists per game. Defensively, Littrell averaged 8.7 rebounds per game, finished ninth in the league with 26 blocked shots and 15th with 1.5 steals per game. She helped lead Central Missouri to a runner-up finish in the MIAA and the No. 2 seed in the post-season tournament.
The Association’s Defensive Player of the Year Connie Clarke was one of the league’s top performers across the board. The 5-10 junior from Birmingham, Ala., was the only player in the league to total over 200 defensive rebounds. Her 8.6 rebounds per game ranked third in the MIAA while her 83 steals on the season tied for the league high. Offensively, Clarke’s 14.2 points per game ranked sixth in the MIAA. She finished regular season action with the second-best shooting percentage, knocking down 163-of-311 for 52.4 percent. Her 65.8 shooting percentage at the free throw line also ranked fifth in MIAA standings. Clarke was also one of the league’s top-25 passers with 2.6 assists per game. Clarke helped the Griffons clinch the No. 9 seed in the 2023 tournament.
Harper Schreiner was selected the 2022-23 Freshman of the Year. The 5-8 guard from Eudora, Kan., averaged 10.5 points and 6.6 boards per game while leading the Gorillas with 118 assists and 43 steals. Her 4.2 assists per game ranked second in the MIAA and also ranked in the league’s top-15 in rebounding and steals. The first year player helped Pitt State to the No. 4 seed in the MIAA championships.
In her eighth season leading the Lopers, Carrie Eighmey and her team clinched the program’s first MIAA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament with a league record of 20-2. The 20 MIAA victories and 27 overall wins is the most in Eighmey’s career at UNK.
