PSU Men Win Third Consecutive Indoor Track & Field Championship

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg State men won the 2023 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship with 208.5 team points and eight individual champions.

The 2023 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships took place Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26 at Pittsburg State’s Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan.

The victory is the Gorillas’ third consecutive indoor title and seventh in the last 10 years. This is Pittsburg State’s ninth overall title.

The Gorillas had individual first-place finishes in the high jump (Cordell Tinch), long jump (Henry Kiner), 60m hurdles (Cordell Tinch), 400m dash (Braylen Brewer), 200m dash (AJ Evans), 5000m run (Braden Zaner), shot put (Konner Swenson) and triple jump (Treyvon Ferguson). 
 
The 2023 indoor runner-up Missouri Southern totaled 100.5 points with two individual winners. Peyton Barton (22.05m) took gold in the weight throw, while Ryan Riddle (7:57.96) placed first in the 3000m run. The Lions wrapped up their weekend with a victory in the 4000m distance medley relay.
 
Nebraska Kearney took third place with 79 points, including an individual title from Luke Stuckey (4:06.64) in the one mile run and Wes Ferguson (1:50.85) in the 800m run.
 
With 76 points, Fort Hays State notched a fourth-place finish with the help of Nolan Churchman’s 5304 points for his individual heptathlon title. FHSU captured gold in the 4x
400m relay (3:11.32) to conclude their weekend.
 
Northwest Missouri logged 61.5 points to round out the top-five, highlighted by Raheem Williams’ victory in the 600y run (1:09.82).
 
Pittsburg State’s Cordell Tinch and AJ Evans were crowned the high point scorers of the 2023 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
