KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its women’s seedings and pairings for the 2023 MIAA Basketball Championships, presented by 
Southern Bank. First round women’s games tip-off 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri.
 
Nebraska Kearney secured its first MIAA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the post-season tournament since joining the Association in the 2012-13 season. The Lopers finished 20-2 in league competition to be crowned the outright MIAA champions.
 
With a first round bye in the tournament, top-seeded UNK will play the winner of No. 8 seed Northwest Missouri (9-13) and No. 9 seed Newman (7-15) on Thursday, March 2, at 6 p.m. The Bearcats and Jets will be the first women’s game of the championship with a 6 p.m. tip-off time on Wednesday, March 2.  
 
Central Missouri tabbed the No. 2 seed with a league record of 19-3. The Jennies also received a first round bye and will take on the winner of No. 7 seed Emporia State (9-13) and No. 10 seed Central Oklahoma (7-15) on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. The Hornets and Bronchos tip-off at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
 
Missouri Western earned the No. 3 seed in the bracket with a MIAA record of 18-4. The Griffons are paired against No. 6 seed Fort Hays State (14-8) and will play the late game at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, March 3.
 
Pittsburg State clinched the No. 4 seed after going 17-5 against league competition. The Gorillas will face No. 5 seed Missouri Southern at 6 p.m. on Friday.
 
The MIAA is celebrating 20 years of conference basketball championships in Kansas City’s historic Municipal Auditorium. The 2023 championships will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. Each MIAA institution selected their own champion of women’s collegiate athletics to be honored. All 14 Title IX Champions, living or deceased, will be recognized and presented an award on the MIAA court during the tournament.
