KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its first men's track and field athletes of the week for 2023-24 indoor season.
MIAA Indoor Track Athlete of the Week – Maxime Touron, Northwest Missouri
Maxime Touron registered the nation’s best time in the 800 meters this season at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic. Touron flew around the Hughes Fieldhouse track for a school-record time of 1:50.47 as he won the event.
MIAA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Blake Morgan, Northwest Missouri
Blake Morgan registered the nation’s best mark in the high jump this season at the 2023 Mel Tjeerdsma Classic. Morgan tallied a personal best 7-0.5 to win the event. His leap ranks second-best in Bearcat program history.
NOTABLE TRACK PERFORMANCES
MJ Smith – Missouri Western
Starting off with the men’s 60-meter dash, MJ Smith set a new program record in the preliminary round, finishing with a time of 6.92 seconds. He went on to finish fourth in the finals, clocking in at 6.97. Smith broke yet another record in his first-place finish in the men’s 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 21.99.
NOTABLE FIELD PERFORMANCES
Ransford Nti – Washburn
Ransford Nti won the triple jump at the season-opening Washburn Alumni Invitational setting a school record with a distance of 14.80 meters (48-06.75), which also was an NCAA Division II provisional mark and a meet record. The mark was the fourth-best in the nation this season and leads all MIAA triple jumpers.
Travis Morrison – Emporia State
Travis Morrison was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a provisional qualifying mark of 17.32 meters (56-10) to place third overall. It is ranked No. 2 in the nation and tops in the MIAA after the opening weekend of action. He also finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 16.18 meters (53-1) that ranks third in the MIAA so far this season.
