WICHITA, Kan. – The 2023 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament resumes Thursday, November 9, at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan.
The four highest seeds in the Association’s 2023 women’s soccer postseason tournament survived their quarterfinal matches to advance to the championship’s semifinals, hosted at the
Stryker Sports Complex.
The first semifinal match of the day is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. kick off featuring No. 2 seed Central Missouri and No. 4 seed Fort Hays State. The second semifinal contest featuring No. 1 seed Washburn and No. 3 seed Emporia State will begin at 3:00 p.m.
The top seeded Ichabods downed No. 8 seed Missouri Southern 3-2 in a MIAA quarterfinal match in Topeka. The victory over the Lions was Washburn’s 16th win of the season – a new program record. Nationally ranked No. 8 in Division II, a victory in the semifinals would advance the Ichabods to the MIAA championship match for the first time in Washburn history.
The Jennies defeated No. 7-seeded Central Oklahoma 2-1 in the MIAA quarterfinals in Warrensburg, Mo. Nationally ranked No. 15 in Division II, Central Missouri and 16-year Head Coach Lewis Theobald are no strangers to the postseason tournament, leading the league with six MIAA championship titles.
Fort Hays State beat No. 6-seeded Northeastern State 2-0 in the MIAA quarterfinals. The Tigers are currently receiving votes to be in the ranked one of the top 25 programs in Division II. Under second year Head Coach Tyson John, the Tigers hope to return to the MIAA championship match for the first time since 2012.
Emporia State shutout No. 5-seeded Northwest Missouri 3-0 in the MIAA quarterfinals. The Hornets’ senior forward Mackenzie Dimarco was crowned the Association’s 2023 Players of the Year and leads all MIAA scorers with 17 goals this season.
All four teams rank in the final NCAA Division II regional rankings of the season. Washburn, the Association’s regular season champion, ranks at the top of the Central Region while Central, Emporia and Hays rank fourth, fifth and sixth, respectfully.
