KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its postseason awards and All-MIAA teams for the 2023 women’s soccer season.
 
Washburn, the 2023 MIAA Regular Season Champion, received four of the Association’s highest postseason honors and had nine student-athletes receive All-MIAA recognition. The regular season title was just the second in Ichabod soccer history and first since the 2006 season.
 
Fifty-nine student-athletes from 11 soccer-competing MIAA institutions were honored in the 2023 post season awards. Central Missouri, the regular season runners-up, also received nine All-MIAA honors while Fort Hays State received seven honors and Northwest Missouri had six. Emporia State, Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western totaled four selections apeice. 
 
Highlighting the 2023 MIAA women’s soccer postseason awards is Emporia State’s Mackenzie Dimarco. Dimarco, a forward from Pleasant Hill, Mo., was named the Association’s Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 35 points his seasons (16 goals, 3 assists). This is Dimarco’s third major MIAA award in her career – the senior was also named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year in 2019.
 
This season, Dimarco became the Association’s new recorded holder for career goals scored with 77 goals in 84 matches. The previous mark was held by Jada Scott (UCM 2014-18) who scored 67 goals in 96 matches.
 
On the other half of the pitch, Washburn’s Jordan Tenpas was honored as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year. Tenpas, a junior transfer from Placentia, Calif., helped lead the Ichabod defense to a league-best 11 shutout victories in the regular season. Washburn’s defense also gave up just nine goals on the year to rank second in the league in goals allowed. With 1,190 total minutes played, Tenpas played the full 90 minutes in all but three of Washburn’s 14 matches this season.
 
Protector of Washburn’s goal, Raegan Wells was honored as the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Year. Wells, a senior from Lincoln, Neb., was a key factor in the Ichabods winning the 2023 regular season title. In 104 shots faced, Wells totaled 42 saves and allowed just nine goals.. She ranked second in the MIAA in goals against average (.514), shutouts (10), and third in save percentage (.820).
 
Northwest Missouri Ximena Arnua and Washburn’s Mackinly Rohn were honored as 2023 Co-Freshman of the Year.
 
Arnua, a midfielder from Kansas City, Mo., tied for fourth in the league with four assists this season. She also ranks third on the Bearcats offensive with 10 points this season (3 goals, 4 assists). Rohn, a forward from Topeka, Kan., led Washburn and tied for the league-best seven assists this season. She also ranked third on her team in points with 13 total (3 goals, 7 assists).
 
In his sixth season leading the Ichabods, Head Coach Davy Phillips was named the 2023 MIAA Coach of the Year after leading Washburn to its first regular season title since 2006. Washburn ended regular season tied for the league-best 94 points, ranking first in assists (26) and second in goals scored (34). The Ichabod defense also ranked second in goals allowed. This is Phillips's first MIAA Coach of the Year honor.
