KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a successful 2021-22 academic year in the MIAA, the conference office has announced record revenue distribution from the MIAA Network streaming platform.
During the 2021-22 academic year, MIAA institutions broadcasted 1,401 live contests on the MIAA Network and resulted in nearly $500,000 of net revenue distributed to conference member athletic departments. This was the first year of the new MIAA Network subscription model developed with Hudl, formerly BlueFrame Technology.
"We knew finding a digital network platform that kept quality control, broadcast policies and content decisions at the membership level was key," said Northwest Missouri State Director of Athletics and MIAA Network Task Force Chair Andy Peterson. "I think with these numbers it was very clear that we made the right decision staying with Hudl as our media platform. Our goal is to increase the visibility of our student-athletes to their families and fans through focusing on the quality of broadcasts and number of events on the network going forward."
On average, MIAA institutions saw a 450% increase in revenue distribution compared to the 2020-21 academic year.
“We’re proud to partner and power streaming for the entire MIAA conference. Working together, we developed a game plan to produce high-quality, cost-effective content, distribute the content through a MIAA branded network, which is available on all major platforms, and monetize the content in a way that represents a value to fans while supporting the operations of the MIAA membership. We are incredibly proud of the results the conference has seen and we’re excited to continue to evolve and grow the MIAA network together,” said Ben Kant, Hudl's head of streaming.
MIAA member institution athletic departments are not restricted in how they use their Network revenue distributions, buy many are using these resources to enhance broadcast equipment and pay personnel to broadcast additional live events this upcoming academic year.
The MIAA has used Hudl as its exclusive streaming partner for the past five academic years and in the fall of 2021, became the first Division II conference to have all content behind a paywall. In addition, the MIAA became the first Hudl college client to surpass $1 million in gross receipts.
Starting in 2022-23, all MIAA football, women's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball conference regular season contests will be streamed live on the MIAA Network.
Fans will be able to purchase MIAA Network All-Access, Monthly and Game Passes starting on August 18 for the 2022-23 academic year.
