Hillcats and Ichabods Compete for 2022 MIAA Softball Tournament Title

EDMOND, Okla. – The stage is set for the 2022 MIAA Softball Championship game. Washburn and Rogers State will complete for the title on Sunday, May 8 at noon.

Third-seeded Rogers State was the only team to collect three straight victories in the 2022 MIAA Softball Tournament, finding themselves in the championship game for the second consecutive season.

Rogers State defeated top-seeded Washburn 2-1 in Game 11 of the MIAA Tournament. The Hillcats two-run inning in the top of the fifth was enough to secure the victory in a game that totaled seven hits from each team. The Association’s 2022 Pitcher of the Year Andrea Morales picked up her 29th win of the season in the circle. The senior allowed just one hit, a run and a walk which striking out 10 in seven innings of work.

The Hillcats will face the Ichabods again in the 2022 MIAA Championship set for Sunday, May 8 at noon.

After falling the RSU in Game 11, Washburn faced No. 4 seed Missouri Western for the remaining spot in the title game.

The Griffons found themselves in the battle for the tournament finale after back-to-back wins on Saturday. Western upset No. 2 Central Oklahoma in Game 10, defeating the Bronchos 5-4 in a 10-inning contest and knocking the host team out of the competition. The Griffons then ended No. 7 Nebraska Kearney’s first-ever MIAA Championship run with a 7-5 victory over the Lopers in Game 12.

Washburn knocked out Western in Game 13 with an 8-1 victory to advance to the MIAA championship game. The Ichabods out-hit the Griffons 11-4, led by the 2022 MIAA Player of the Year Jaycee Ginter with three hits and two runs while Jaden LaBarge finished with a team-high three RBI. Reagen Hamm pitched the complete game for the Ichabods. The senior allowed four hits and one run scored with collecting nine strikeouts.

The first pitch of the 2022 MIAA Championship Game is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Okla. Neither Washburn or Rogers State have ever won an MIAA Softball  Tournament Title.
