KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletes Association announced its 2022 Baseball Postseason Awards and All-MIAA Teams.

A pair of outfielders were deserving of this year’s MIAA Player of the Year title. Central Missouri’s Brennen van Breusegen and Northeastern State’s Brock Reller were both selected for the Association’s top honor. Central Oklahoma’s Kyler Patterson was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Year. Emporia State’s TJ Racherbaumer tabbed the MIAA Freshman of the Year honor. Central Missouri Head Coach Kyle Crookes was voted the Association’s Coach of the Year by his peers.

Brennen van Breusegen was named the Co-Player of the Year after helping Central Missouri to the 2022 MIAA Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the post-season tournament. Van Breusegen, a redshirt-sophomore from Columbia, Ill., had an impressive season at the plate. The Mules starting center fielder owned a league-best batting average (.462), slugging percentage (.846) and OPS (1.355). His .509 on-base percentage also ranked second in the league while his 56 RBI ranked eighth. Defensively, van Breusegen recorded 70 putouts and one assist in the outfield for a .973 fielding percentage. This is van Breusegen’s first time being honored by the MIAA. He was also a First Team All-MIAA outfield selection.

Brock Reller earned Co-Player of the Year honors his first season in the MIAA. A senior from Grand Forks, N.D., Reller ranked in the MIAA’s top-10 in seven different categories: slugging percentage (.801), OPS (1.215), runs scored (67), RBI (74), triples (6), home runs (25) and walks (32). His 25 home runs led the league, broke the MIAA individual single season record and helped NSU break the team single season home run record. He also needs one more RBI this season to move into the Association’s single season top-10. While playing in center field, Reller totaled 76 put outs and four assist while posting a .988 fielding percentage. Reller joined van Breusegen as a First Team All-MIAA outfield selection.

With 20 relief appearances this season, Central Oklahoma’s Kyler Patterson dominated every time he stepped on the mound to be tabbed the Association’s Pitcher of the Year. In just 39.2 innings of work, Patterson posts a blistering 0.68 ERA with 62 strikeouts. Patterson, a redshirt-junior from Cushing, Okla., also ranked second the league with nine saves. He was also the only relief pitcher to earn First Team All-MIAA honors. Patterson was also tied with Central Missouri’s Collin Jones for the pitching position on the MIAA Gold Glove Team.

TJ Racherbaumer was named the Freshman of the Year after leading Emporia State’s offense, helping the Hornets clinch the final seed in the MIAA tournament. Racherbaumer, a first year from Hermann, Mo., posted a team-high .359 batting average with 56 hits, 39 runs scored and 40 RBI. Of his total hits, 28 of our them were for extra bases including a team-high 16 doubles which tied for the eighth-most in the league. Defensively, Racherbaumer started 45 games as the Hornets catcher. He was responsible for 301 putouts and 52 assists with a .981 fielding percentage. His 301 putouts ranked in the MIAA’s top-10. Racherbaumer was also a Third Team All-MIAA catcher selection.

In his eighth season leading the Mules, Head Coach Kyle Crookes led UCM to its third straight MIAA Regular Season Title and his fourth overall. Central Missouri finished 30-3 against MIAA opponents and post an overall record of 37-6. The Mules led the league in every category this season with a .351 team batting average, a 3.90 team ERA and .973 team fielding percentage. This is Crookes’s second time being honored as the Association’s Coach of the Year.
