ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Central Oklahoma is headed to the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis National Championship following a 4-2 win over Indianapolis in Friday's semifinal.
Central Oklahoma improved to 24-1 with the win and the Bronchos, the No. 2 seed in the national tournament, will now face No. 1 Barry Saturday, May 21 at 8 a.m. Central Time.
Central Oklahoma's journey in Altamonte Springs started with a 4-0 shutout of MIAA foes Washburn in the Division II Women's Tennis Sweet 16. The Bronchos then went on to defeat Azusa Pacific 4-1 in the Elite Eight to advance to the National Semifinals on Friday, May 20. The Bronchos knocked out Indianapolis 4-2 in the semifinals, setting UCO up for the program's first-ever women's tennis national title match.
The Bronchos have met Barry twice in recent history. The Buccaneers of Miami, Florida bounced UCO in the national semifinals last season, and then again in the ITA Indoor National Championship match this February in Edmond. The Bronchos have seen an 18 match win streak since falling to the Buccaneerrs on February 28.
Central Oklahoma is 45-3 overall in the last two seasons with two of those losses to Barry. Barry has won the last four national championships (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) and brings a 61-match win streak into Saturday's championship, dating back to 2019.
