2022 MIAA Softball Athletes of the Week: Week 1,
Week 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its third Softball Athletes of the Week, presented by
Mammoth Turf, for the 2022 season. Roger State’s Bridgett Morales and Missouri Southern’s Ashlynn Williams were named Co-Hitters of the Week while RSU’s Andrea Morales tabbed the Pitcher of the Week honor.
Co-MIAA Hitter of the Week – Bridgett Morales – Rogers State
Bridgett Morales powered the Hillcats to a 4-1 record at the Broncho Invitational this past weekend. Morales finished 9-for-16 to hit .563 over the five games. The true freshman totaled seven RBI and five extra base hits including, two home runs, two doubles and a triple.
Co-MIAA Hitter of the Week – Ashlynn Williams – Missouri Southern
Ashlynn Williams finished the week with a .529 batting average, slugging 1.000 with a .550 on base percentage for a 1.500 OPS while picking up 11 RBIs off nine hits, five of which were extra bases. The junior had three doubles, a triple and a grand slam home run as the Lions went 3-3 during the Broncho Invitational last weekend. Williams finished 4-of-4 against Chadron State in the Lions 8-1 win, picking up three RBI and scoring twice with two doubles hit. She also recorded 12 putouts playing first base. Williams topped off the week with a grand slam home run to help the Lions to a 10-1 run rule win over East Central. Williams reached on base in all but one of the six games the Lions played this weekend and finished the week with 37 putouts and four assists on defense.
MIAA Pitcher of the Week – Andrea Morales – Rogers State
Andrea Morales continued her hot start to the season going 3-1 in the circle at the Broncho Invitational this weekend. In total, she posted a 1.94 ERA in 20.2 innings with 27 strikeouts and only allowing three walks.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Hitters
Jacee Minter – Central Oklahoma
Jacee Minter batted .538 with three doubles, a home run and six RBI as Central Oklahoma went 4-0 in the Broncho Invitational. The sophomore slugger had seven hits in 13 at bats and posted a 1.000 slugging percentage. Minter also had two walks in finishing with a .600 on-base percentage and stole a base.
Pitchers
Kylee Lynch – Central Oklahoma
Kylee Lynch went 2-0 with a 1.12 ERA while appearing in three games over the weekend. The sophomore left-hander gave up just five hits and two runs in 16 innings. Lynch struck out five and walked only one as opponents hit a mere .100. She gave up three hits in a 5-1 complete-game win over Oklahoma Baptist, then allowed just two hits in a 2-1 eight-inning victory over Harding. Lynch finished the weekend with a 1-2-3 seventh inning in finishing out UCO’s 12-7 win over Arkansas Tech.
