SEATTLE, Wash. – The Washburn Ichabod men's cross country team was honored with the award for the team with the highest grade point average of the men's teams competing at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at the opening ceremonies of the 2022 NCAA Fall Festival.  

The No. 22-ranked Washburn Ichabod men's cross country team finished 26th out of 34 teams at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Friday, Dec. 2 in University Place, Washington. It was the program's first trip to the national meet. 

Competing for the Ichabods in the national championship was Gabriel Chinya, Nathan Gray, Paul Kamp, David Kibet, Collen McLain, Tommy Roehl and Sam Steinlicht. The student-athletes' combined GPAs was the highest overall team GPA of all 34 men's programs competing in the national championship.
