KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its third MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, presented by Shift Group, for the 2022-23 season.
 
MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Will Eames – Missouri Western
Will Eames led the Griffons in scoring last week in wins over Rockhurst and Avila. Eames notched game-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds, setting a new season-high for himself in points scored. He also dished out a season-best four assists in MWSU’s 82-46 win over the Hawks. Eames followed up with a 12-point outing in the Griffons 62-45 win over Avila, grabbing six rebounds in the process. The junior shot well from three on the week overall, making 4-of-7 from deep, shooting 2-of-3 against Rockhurst and 2-of-4 against Avila.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Kaleb Hammeke – Fort Hays State
Kaleb Hammeke led the Tigers in scoring in both victories at home this past week. The sophomore had 10 points in a balanced scoring effort by the Tigers against Central Christian, then scored 22 against Manhattan Christian. Hammeke had 17 of his 22 against MCC by halftime. He also averaged 6.0 assists per game for the week, helping FHSU finish non-conference play 5-1.
 
Sherwyn Devonish-Price Jr. – Rogers State
Sherwyn Devonish-Prince Jr. led the Hillcats to a 2-0 week averaging 15.0 points per game. In the Hillcats 93-82 win over Southwestern Christian, the senior put up 14 points with seven assists and three rebounds. In an 71-53 upset victory over East Central, Devonish-Prince Jr. added another 16 points with four rebounds, two assists and a steal. He also shot 9-for-12 from the free throw line across both games.
 
Garrett Luinstra – Central Missouri
Garrett Luinstra helped the Mules to a 2-0 record this past week with wins over Missouri Valley (78-71) and Central Christian (112-35). Luinstra averaged 24.3 minutes, 15.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 rebounds per contest.
